"The place is immaculate, ( what I like the best ). The road noise from broad street is so bad from the motorcycles you can’t even keep your windows open in the spring and summer. Rent a bit high for amenities offered. All the Staff have been great."
"I moved out at the end of August and had my full security deposit taken and was charged nearly $400 for a full repaint because of 6 nail holes for shelves and 3 pieces of tape on the paint holding a mirror. I was told the charges are assessed automatically based on the move out pics submitted. I was assured it would be sorted but after more than 3 months I received little help from management or the leasing office when trying to get the charge removed."
"I am looking for an apartment to move in August and I contacted them about a rental apartment unit. I saw the units, said I will think about renting the unit in the third floor. Then after 1 week, they texted back; I said I will rent the unit. The funny part starts at this point, they said they rented the third floor unit already and another unit is available to rent in July. I am wondering at this point if the unit I wanted is not available anymore and there is practically no units that can wait till August, why are you wasting my time by sending me text messages? Why such a communication cannot go through emails like any other non-urgent communication? If these people are so willing to waste my time before becoming my landlord, I can not imagine how entitled they would behave when I need them to fix a problem with my rental."
"This is the best place I've ever lived. The apartments are beautiful with natural light and high-quality kitchen appliances. Every person who works here is super professional and goes out of their way to make sure the building is well taken care of. When you compare Southstar to similarly prices apartments, you just get better value for your dollar here. The only downside is the road noise, but that doesn't really bother me. I plan on living here until I purchase a home because I don't want to rent anywhere else."
"Great place to live in terms of quality of the building, the units and facilities. Has a nice small gym with some machines and free weights. I lived there for almost two years and it was close to the subway to get to work and convenient walk to center city. Hardwood floors, very updated appliances and cabinets and we had a great corner apartment that overlooked broad street. Initially, we had a great building manager who was very responsive and was quick to answer any questions that I had. He showed his face all the time and stopped by and said hello often when I walked through the lobby. About 6 or more months ago that manager left and a new manager arrived. The new manager is not the best. She doesn't respond to voicemails, calls, texts or emails unless you badger her multiple times. When I was moving out I tried to set up our move out inspection for weeks and she never responded. We ended up leaving our keys in our apartment. This was three weeks ago and I STILL haven't heard from her. Called her multiple times about it too. She is terrible at communicating with anyone, so if you need something or have a question she is not reliable at all. The other problem with Southstar is they jacked the rent up so high that it caused us to leave. I know its a location on broad street so the rent will be high, but they increased it so much after we renewed once we couldn't afford to stay. And this was during COVID-19 epidemic where people were losing jobs and they didn't seem to care that some people were struggling. They still increased our rent by $200 per month, which was not feasible for us. Overall, the facilities are really nice, it was a great place to live, however do not set the bar too high with communication with the building manager."
