"I've been a resident for half a year now and I've been enjoying my time here. Picked this apartment specifically for its vicinity to various places and the metro line a 10 minute walk away. It's a perfect 5/5 for that alone. I also feel like the staff here at Kirkwood are pleasant and do their job well. I appreciate the cleaning that gets done in the apartment staircases at least once a week. With the amount of people coming in and out it is very nice to have that kind of upkeep. Apartment grounds and lawns are always clean and well kept, the children play soccer when they get home from school sometimes and it's nice to see kids have the opportunity and space to be kids. There's a park with some picnic tables and a basketball court across the road, haven't made use of it yet but various people have. It is nice to know that I'm not living in a place owned by slumlords. I feel that the staff does the best with what they have considering the rent is honestly cheap. However, just because the rent is cheap doesn't mean that there aren't grievances. The things that drop the rating are things that could be small but have affected me enough times that I feel it is a notable inconvenience. Firstly, get your parking spot before midnight. I would call it safe and say before 11. And that is to just guarantee you a spot, it doesn't guarantee the spot is close to your unit. The towing company does a poor job at surveying what cars are meant to be on property and what aren't. How do I know? I've slept in my car 2 times already in the time that I've lived here. From 11pm to 4am I did not witness the towing company come by at all. The small amount of times I do see the towing truck, I'm looking out the window and seeing them towing people out of handicap spaces. Which, sure. Does help our disabled neighbors but not the rest of us. I know for a fact a lot of cars are able to make it through the night with no sticker or pass cuz the towing truck doesn't make proper rounds. I told myself the next time that I have to sleep in my car, I'm calling both the tow company and the rental office because it is ridiculous at how I have a right to parking in a place I rent but I cannot even find ONE spot from 11pm to 4am. Second, there are roaches. Those small-ish german cockroaches that you find often in apartments. I kill at least one a day, and I keep my unit pretty tidy. It's not a cleanliness problem, the roaches are behind the stove and in between the wooden kitchen cabinets you can't get behind, so you can never solve the problem at the root. This isn't my first rodeo with these guys so I'm not squeamish or anything, but if it gets worse in the warmer seasons after I spent all winter trying to eradicate them then I will call pest control. Third, I moved in during the summer. If you guys recall it was a scorcher. You know this when you move in but the whole unit only has a AC unit in the living room. And only one of the two bedrooms has a ceiling fan. I think we almost died several times in the first week since the air didn't get a chance to fully circulate. The no central ac bites back at you in the winter time too. I'm currently typing with a wool jacket on in my living room. The radiators for some reason, go on full blast on days when it's barely 50-low 60s but on days with a low of 26 I hover my hand over the radiator and it's ice cold. Don't know what's up with that but once again, you get what you pay for. Overall the apartments are honestly a 3.5/5. A 3 felt too low for my experience. Yes, I got slighted a few times by the parking and the bugs but the neighborhood is safe compared to our surroundings and everything I need is within walking distance. I think this is a good starter apartment for people who are moving out by themselves or have just one roommate that can split rent. It's really worth it then."
"Very nice place, I don't live there but went for a visit to see if I wanted to move there and had a great experience. My appointment was at 10am, got there a little early and the rental office doesn't open until 10am. Everyone was nice, the leasing consultant I can't remember her full name but I know it was something like Honey. She was nice and informative she gave me a tour and showed me a two bedroom. The grounds were very nice and well kept and the inside of the apartment was nice and spacious too. Thank you for the tour and the professionalism."
"I'm so disappointed. This morning I woke up and my car was gone. I called the police to file a report because my initial instinct was that it was stolen. Apparently, the company that Kirkwood has a contract with towed my vehicle. They claimed that the reason they towed my vehicle was because the month of the expiration date was damaged on the license plate, and they couldn't tell what it was. I go into my trunk EVERYDAY; it was NOT damaged when I last park. But conveniently, the sticker had a clean diagonal slice the next day (just the sticker, nothing else on the plate). I had to pay $175.00! to get my car back. Oh, the tow company only take Cashapp or Zelle, so If you don't have those you're not getting your vehicle back. I went into the rental office because I suspected foul play. I even asked if they have cameras in the area to see what exactly occurred. In so many words the manager told me, it’s your words vs theirs', we don't believe you, we think you are lying, and it is your loss. The best you can do is get another sticker before they tow you again. It hasn't even been a month as a new resident here and it's so distasteful."
"Kirkwood is a very nice environment my wife and kids feels safe. It's quite and green and well kept. Inside the apartment in nice small but nice. The one unit ac in the living room is only good for the living room in the summer the back of the house you'll need fans it gets really hot. In the winter it's hotter than hells kitchen. You cannot control the radiator yes I said radiator. It came on last winter when it wasn't hot enough for it. It's on a timer and it was unbearable for 3to 4 months. I hate it. I also hate that all my maintenance problems has been with the plumbing in my bathroom all to do with the sink clogging and the tub clogging. Water runs back up the pipes in the kitty and the bathroom. I also live over top of the laundry I wouldn't recognize it. It's convenient but also a headache with plumbing. Oh and the tub needs to be reglazed yes reglazed my tub looks like a torture chamber. Whatever they use it wears off on a yr. I been here for 14 month's. That's my assessment of Kirkwood."
"I didn’t want to believe the bad reviews but I’m starting to see that they are actually true. This place is infested with roaches! And I am a clean person I love keeping it clean. And the roaches never go away. And honestly cheap isn’t always good. There is never parking. They need to start making more parking or something. You can never find parking and there’s people who hoard parking spots and there’s this resident who purposely parks bad on the outside street so he can then bring his other car to move and park there. It’s so unfair to other people he rarely uses the car he keeps it there as a way to save parking. Kitchen is very small there’s not much room. This place just needs better control with parking and have assigned numbers, a little bigger kitchen, and pest control, water, and it would be a 5 star."
