"I had a great experience in the Algonquin Apartment. I chose the apartment because it was very spacious one bedroom apartment and the building was very historically beautiful. I loved the details of the apartment and the renovated kitchen that had a marble countertop. There was a lot of kitchen cabinet space if you like to cook! Whatever my apartment direction was facing, it was a very naturally lit apartment because of the many windows and usually didn’t even need to turn on lights during the day. The management (Samuel) made the move in and move out process very easy for me. He was very flexible with my move in and he was very flexible with my move out process. Overall I was very happy with my experience at the Algonquin and would recommend it to others who are also choosing to be in Mount Vernon."
"When first moving in there were a couple issues with management around getting a lead inspection done (which should have been completed before move-in), a replacement window screen, and a few other minor issues (apartment wasn't entirely clean when we got there, shower head needed replacing). As some other reviews have pointed out, Samuel can be difficult to reach but we found that calling the office a few times and emailing typically did the trick. The package issue mentioned in other reviews did get fixed and there are cameras in the building now – I had no issues with lost packages in my two years there. Those minor negatives aside there are plenty of positives to this building. The rent was extremely reasonable and in a very nice area of the city (walking distance to many restaurants and the train station, purple bus stop to Hopkins right around the corner). My unit (8th floor) had a beautiful view, nice wooden floors, good kitchen appliances + washer/dryer in unit, a well-designed shower, and was a good size. The building is also accommodating of pets without charging an exorbitant pet fee. I would have continued living here if not for moving out of the city."
"I wish I could give zero stars. Literally the worst management I have ever dealt with. Please avoid this building at all costs. They will ignore you, Samuel deserves to be fired. Move in was a cluster. Took us 8 months to get a working dryer. Now the dishwasher doesn’t work and they are not responding to any calls. They don’t communicate. Lease can’t end soon enough. Also I’ve been waiting for also a year to get a door put on my closet. Heed the reviews and stay away"
"When we first moved in our move in time was pushed back they were taking their sweet time to get it ready so we agreed to clean the place ourselves so we could move in and he gave us a discount. Next there was no working washer machine. We moved in in August and was promised one in October we didn't get it till March. Also you can never get a hold of the land lord and he's very dodgy. The first star is for the times I've been helped out and the time he took my advise. The second star is the location. Nice spot. Also when we first moved in the bathroom door wasn't even attached. So one star"
"This is probably the worst experience I have ever had with an apartment complex. When I first toured the apartment, the manager (Samuel) was very attentive and gracious with any requests. It became clear that as soon as you signed the lease, they fail to deliver even the most basic necessities. MANY other people in the complex have gone MONTHS without basic appliances (fridge, dishwasher, laundry units) fixed. In addition, there is no available contact information for Samuel. You have to barge into the office and demand to be heard, and even then they do not take your complaints seriously. In addition, the complex has had a horrible problem with packages being stolen. Still, after a litany of complaints, Samuel has failed to do anything to protect the residents. Tenants have seen Samuel literally RUN out of the office to avoid answering any questions or dealing with tenants. He NEVER answers any emails, and does not have a phone number. I've never dealt with such an irresponsible person. THIS IS THE WORST APARTMENT COMPLEX. SAMUEL IS BY FAR THE WORST PROPERTY MANAGER I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH. DO NOT RENT HERE."
