Hatchery Road trailhead

"Trail can be flooded. Also lots of overgrown sections (tall grass) not my favorite trail but you can find lots of mushrooms along the way. Most of the trail is wide. Haven't found great access to the river yet ..."

"Not gonna lie about this one either. It’s a beautiful but tough. You walk down an abandoned road (once cobble??) and all along the way you can see remains of a the former fish hatchery. Rows of tiered pools and lochs(??) for managing the fish? A few larger ponds that are returning to nature. It’s all very cool. The problem is, if you don’t pay attention, is that you are descending just over 800 vertical feet. And eventually you are gonna have to come back up that 800’. If you are young and fit, no problem. If you are prepared with nuts and water and other snacks, no problem. But if you aren’t then you are going to really be hurting on that climb back up. Overall lovely, just go prepared."

"This new trailhead off Cold Spring Road offers access to the gated Hatchery Road that extends down to the Neversink River. Blazed red, Hatchery Road is a double track dirt road that runs along Eden Brook and past an abandoned fish hatchery. The route is suitable for hiking, mountain biking and XC skiing. Land to the left as you walk towards Neversink is private, so stay on the road. It connects to the blue-blazed trail."
