Dr. Anthony Termine, MD

"Dr. Termine has been my psychiatrist for over 10 years. I am responding to the review below. And writing a review for him is also long overdue. He is so great I never thought to write one. But seeing what was written below I am compelled to respond. Her description of Dr. Termine’s care philosophy and practice is patently false. For example, He treated me by phone throughout the pandemic and often spent up to 30 or 40 minutes with me. He is always available if I am in a crisis and need an extra or last minute appt. His office staff is wonderful and helpful and always available. As for the drug interaction allegation this has no correlation with the doctor who has been treating me for a decade. We carefully discuss at every appt how my medications are affecting me and Dr. Termine carefully adjusts accordingly. I have had interactions in the past and he has immediately addressed in concerned and appropriate manner. It’s obvious that the person who wrote the review below is disgruntled about a change in health care which is very understandable. But I can also attest from personal experience, while going through a divorce and my health insurance was cut off, Dr. Termine and his office staff patiently worked with me and the insurance company to resolve the situation. While everyone is entitled to voice an opinion, taking frustration out over personal issues on a doctor’s reputation is not right. The review below is simply not accurate. I have been treated by numerous psychiatrists over the years, in different states, and he by far stands out as the best. He listens. He cares. He is an expert in psychopharmacology. I trust Dr. Termine with my life."

"Update per Dr. Termine's response below: A physician should know to spend more than 3 minutes with a patient. He should not have had to be called out for this to change this practice. It is not my responsibility to inform Dr. Termine on how to exercise thorough care. This review lists facts. The facts are as follows: 1. Dr. Termine did not spend more than 5 minutes with me during any of our phone appointments during the pandemic. 2. Dr. Termine was not able to provide detailed guidance on a possible medication interaction. 3. And most importantly, Dr. Termine did not assist in any way with transitioning my care when he abruptly told me he was no longer in-network. The issue is not that he no longer accepts UHC. That is his prerogative and right as a businessman. The problem is that I was abruptly tossed to the curb. Right, wrong, or indifferent, these are facts and they speak for themselves. You may use this factual review and his emotional reaction to decide if this is the right physician for you. Original post: This review is long overdue. I was a patient of Dr. Termine's for approximately two years before he abruptly decided to discontinue accepting UnitedHealthcare/Optum. Throughout the pandemic, he would schedule phone appointments with me every other month, which lasted fewer than 5 minutes. He would then bill my insurance company $675, and after the plan discount and my copay, took home $227. That's $227 for 3 minutes of interacting with the patient. When Dr. Termine told me he was no longer accepting UnitedHealthcare, he said "UnitedHealthcare isn't very psychiatrist friendly." Apparently $227 for 3 minutes isn't enough for him. Additionally, he informed me of this change during one of our appointments and did not schedule a follow up or offer to assist with finding an alternative. This was in June 2021. Several months later, I received a letter in the mail from my insurance company stating that Dr. Termine's contract would be ending with UHC in September 2021... This man could have continued providing me care for three additional months while I searched for a new doctor, but did not give me that option so that he would have space for a new patient that he could collect more money from. Also, there was a time that I was prescribed a muscle relaxer for lower back pain and I read online that there was an interaction with the antidepressant Dr. Termine prescribed for me. I called Dr. Termine to ask about the potential consequences of an interaction and what I should look out for in case of a negative interaction, and he said "Let me look that up for you." Two minutes later, he says "Yes, I see that there is an interaction." I thought umm, duh... I learned that from a simple Google search. I was looking for a little more guidance from a physician who should be able to explain the pharmacology to me beyond what I can ascertain from a search engine. Dr. Termine was basically a glorified drug dealer. If you're looking for a doctor who isn't going to spend much time with you, doesn't seem to bring much expertise to the table beyond basic psychiatry, and all you want is easy access to prescriptions, this is your guy. If you want more thorough care, I'd suggest finding someone else. I now see a wonderful physician at ColumbiaDoctors psychiatry."

"Dr. Termine is a great psychiatrist. Before finding him, I saw many providers, but never felt like I was making much progress. Then I met Dr. T and finally started to feel better, which I think has a lot to do with the thoroughness of his care. He goes above and beyond for his patients. I have recommended him to family and friends, which says a lot!"

"Life can be hard sometimes, and it's much easier when you have Dr. T in your corner. To anyone reading this, don't let a stupid review by a frustrated patient, who was not able to abide by a very clear policy give you pause about working with one of New York City's best doctors. Dr. Anthony Termine is a consummate professional who is insightful, caring, compassionate and extremely intelligent. I've worked with him for over 10 years and he has seen me through good times and bad. He runs his office professionally and his assistant gives patients courtesy calls before each and every appointment. Dr. T makes it clear when you work with him what his policy is around last minute cancellations. Unlike many doctors in New York, Dr. T takes the time to try to proactively find an appointment for patients if a spot opens up on his schedule. He understands that sometimes you really need to talk to someone. Beyond administration, Dr. T stays up to date on the newest treatments in his field. Whether you are looking for someone to talk things through issues with, and/or you are consider taking medications, he is one of the best."

"I've been seeing Dr. Termine for a couple years now. He is an amazing doctor and obviously cares a lot about his patients. When I moved to the city, It took me a while to find a doctor in NY who I was comfortable with, but my search ended immediately after my first appointment with Dr. Termine. Oh, and he has such a friendly support team too! I love chatting it up with Anthony in the waiting room!"
