"I dropped my Yellow English Lab, Bailey, off on 8/5, for a month long behavioral training. So far the experience has been relatively positive, although the contract was ridiculously one sided. I will update after she comes home, and again after her follow up. ***update a month after her drop off for 30 day training*** Bailey was brought home after a month long board/train session by Thomas from Canine Behavioral Services. We had about a half hour long discussion about her training, progress and future needs. After a rest break outside, she was brought in and demonstrated what I must call a night and day difference from her prior behavior. At this time we were informed what her future treatment should entail, and how to move forward with her. Thomas gets 5 stars from us, as he was friendly, patient and informative. Bailey was 80% where we wanted her to be, WITH HIM. Thomas gave us all of the tools, in person and via email, to work on getting to the same level with her. It has to be noted...she had been living in a kennel and yard environment for a month. Her transition back to a home environment was apparent. She never had the week of home based living that was contracted due to the owner, Brian, experiencing medical issues. We are over 75% satisfied with our dealings with CBS so far. They kept our dog alive, socialized her with other dogs and taught her to sit for a treat. 24 hours in, and we have to say she went from a terror to a pleasure. Some of this was due to her being subjected to zero affection for a month. She mostly aims to please now. I will post further updates down the line. ***Update a month later after follow up two day stay.*** I dropped Bailey off with six portions of food, (lunch and dinner day one, three meals day two, breakfast day three) and as always reminded that she was on a vet directed diet of one cup per meal, three times per day. She is large for her breed and gender. I picked her up this morning and had three meals returned to me and was told she hadn't eaten yet today. That would mean that she skipped a meal both days. When she first came home she was noticeably skinnier, but I attributed it to the fact that she had extra exercise during her month long stay. After this morning, however, I would have to assume that she was fed twice a day throughout her stay. I have to knock off two stars for this, as I was assured that she would eat three times per day every day. As far as overall effectiveness of her stay...she has great impulse control and we got plenty of advice to reinforce impulse and recall. She came home still pulling like a bull on the leash and jumping up on people (Thomas included), and told that would have cost us more money for an enhanced plan. Bottom line...we needed the month long break from her rowdy behavior, but for thirty-five hundred dollars I would have thought it fair for her to be fed properly and loose lease trained. We ended up at about 25% satisfied considering the amount of money we spent vs the results and our dog's care that we are aware of."
"When my dad had a major stroke, we adopted his Standard Poodle, Viola, so he could still have her in his family. We already had three dogs - two older standard poodles (both male) and a young, sassy Bichon named Ripple (female). Well, Ripple didn’t like having another girl in the house and Viola and Ripple just didn’t like each other much. They would both fight and with the size difference, this was not a good development. We tried EVERYTHING to get them to live peacefully together (or at least not brawl) but nothing was working. Then we found Brian Manning and Canine Behavioral Services and their pack cohesion program! Ripple came home after her first round of training and showed no aggression towards dogs - this was a huge change! And now both Viola and Ripple are learning together which just makes me so happy as we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you, Brian and team! Attaching some photos of their training!"
"Several years ago my wife and I brought our two pups here to train them to get along together. We were encouraged to purchase a $6-7,000 program where each dog went there for two weeks and then the two dogs went for training together for an additional week. After Years of living with these dogs and observing them, as well as replaying the training and post training I will say this. The methods used to train the dogs were either rushed and therefore very harsh in order to produce quick results, resulting in both of my dogs coming back with a number of anxieties which they did not have prior to this training. Though we have managed through them, at almost 8 years old they still have them both. One of them, extreme fear of metal to metal noise, came from a technique where the dog trainer slams the dog cage and / or throws the bowl at the dog cage. We witnessed Brian doing this in front of us in our own home, leaving the dog shaking and petrified. Also, Brian was not very friendly or patient and rushed through out follow up visits, which paying this kind of money, to me In unacceptable. Needless to say we did not use Brian for follow up training and went elsewhere for follow up training. Both the new trainer and my vet agree that the training methods were brute and inhumane. This I am sure is a matter of opinion. But the anxieties of my dogs and our personal and direct experiences with Brian remain. I would say that if you are able to train your dog without leaving them with someone else not knowing what they’re going to do to your dog and how that will affect them long term, please explore that option fully first. I will never make that mistake again, with any trainer."
"We just picked Arlo up from his 3rd family sleep over service. Brain, Laura and all the amazing trainers at Canine Behavioral Services have given us our life back with our sweet Arlo Boy. I'm not sure anyone else in the world would call Arlo sweet. This dog has had it rough...no pun intended. He was only 3 weeks old when he was taken from his mother and not properly weened. He then had a horrible accident at 6 months old where he was hit in the head and knocked out cold and lost 6 of his teeth. Arlo has anxiety and fear-based aggression beyond anything myself or my husband know how to handle. He has attacked and sent a dog to the hospital. He has been aggressive towards humans and animals. I honestly don't believe he would still be with us if we hadn't found the 6-week board and train program that Brian offers. Arlo is a different dog. He is so much calmer and happier. He no longer has aggression in the house but still has reactive aggression that we are working on outside of the house and in the car. Brian has been to our house to train us all, multiple times, and would come again, if we needed him. There isn't one other place on earth we would leave Arlo with or trust Arlo to learn from but Brian and his wonderful trainers. Arlo has a little way to go but every time we bring him to Brian, Arlo comes home better. My husband and I have a little way to go to be more consistent with what Brian has taught us to do, but Brian didn't hesitate to take on Arlo and my husband and myself. We thank God for him!!! To be continued.....Arlo is going back for a longer sleepover stay and extra training. I'm so thankful that the training for all of us is always available. I'd give them all 50 stars if I could, but it only goes up to 5 *****"
"First let me say, I have a high maintenance breed who needs a close eye kept on him. He is a lot of work at times. I have tried a few other kennels over the years but have been lucky to be referred to Canine Behavioral Services. Oscar’s recent stay (one of many) was a 10 day stretch and he wasn’t feeling good about a week in. The communication back to me was prompt, detailed and done with care. I was given many options as to how to handle the situation from a far and knew immediately this facility was going to do everything in their power to make sure he got better. They cared for Oscar as if he was the only dog in their care, meanwhile I’m sure they were at or close to capacity. Laura was my contact and knows the dogs (as does everyone there) as if these dogs belonged to them. They care for your dogs at this facility with love. Each dog gets what is best for them. It is apparent that their number one concern is the health and safety of our pets. It comes with a huge responsibility and they rise to the occasion. Speaking from experience, not all kennels handle a sick pet this way. I can’t recommend Canine Behavioral Services enough. This comes with years of experience of owning and boarding dogs. Dogs are family and should be treated as such. Thank you Laura, Brian and everyone at your facility for treating Oscar just like he was a part of your family."
