Ceramic College
About the Business
Welcome to Ceramic College, located at 159 Bayswater Avenue in Auckland, New Zealand. If you have ever wanted to learn the art of pottery, then this is the place for you! Our establishment offers pottery classes for adults of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced.
Nestled in the charming old St. Michael's Church on the North Shore, our college provides a unique and inspiring environment for clay enthusiasts. Led by award-winning ceramic artist Teresa Watson and her daughter Latasha Wildman, our experienced tutors are passionate about sharing their love for clay and inspiring students in their creative journey.
As a small family-run business, Ceramic College is committed to providing an educational facility and pottery studio for the entire community. We offer ceramic classes for adults during the school term, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to explore their artistic potential.
What sets us apart is that we are the only facility in the North Shore solely dedicated to ceramics. Housed in the beautifully preserved St. Michael's Anglican church, complete with original furniture and a church bell, our college offers a unique and historic setting for your pottery classes.
Equipped with 6 electric wheels and 2 electric kilns, our studio provides all the necessary tools for your pottery creations. We primarily focus on earthenware, offering a range of clay colors and regularly updating our selection to inspire new pieces. With a maximum class size of 12 students, we ensure personalized attention and guidance for each individual.
At Ceramic College, all ceramic pieces undergo two firings: the first to strengthen the clay (Bisque firing) and the second for the final glaze firing. This process usually takes 2-3 weeks, after which your finished pieces are ready to be taken home.
To cover the firing costs, a $40.00 firing credit is required at the beginning of each term, similar to a pre-paid phone credit. Rest assured, all the clay, underglazes, and glazes we use are safe and non-toxic. Your creations can be used in everyday life, as they are dishwasher and microwave safe, and can even be displayed in your garden.
Due to the popularity of our classes, spaces fill up quickly. Bookings for Term 4 open on the 13th of September at 8pm, and for Term 3 on the 21st of June at 8pm. To secure your spot or register your interest, please fill out the form on our website.
Teresa Watson, our main tutor, founded Ceramic College in 2014. With over 40 years of experience in ceramics and 20 years of teaching, Teresa brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her classes. Her teaching methods are relaxed and fun, while still maintaining a focus on achieving high-quality work.
Latasha Wildman, Teresa's daughter, has been an integral part of Ceramic College since 2015. Starting as an assistant, she has now become a full-time potter and tutor since 2016. Latasha's energy and passion for ceramics are contagious, making her an excellent addition to our team.
