As a New Zealand trained doctor, I specialize in general psychiatry and hold a fellowship from the Royal New Zealand and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. With 8 years of experience in public mental health services during my training, I established my private practice in 2016.

While a referral from a General Practitioner (GP) is not always necessary, it is highly preferred. This ensures that patients receive the appropriate private specialist consultation they require. In some cases, a referral to a clinical psychologist or counselor may be more suitable. Additionally, a referral from your GP helps determine the urgency of your appointment, allowing us to offer timely care. It also provides important health information and history that may influence your psychiatric treatment.

If you are unable to attend your appointment, please notify us as soon as possible. Cancellations made on the day of the appointment will incur a fee of $100, while no-shows will be charged the full fee. Please note that there may be a wait time of 3 to 4 months for non-urgent assessments, depending on our workload and demands.

For your convenience, the cost of the first appointment, which lasts 90 minutes, remains unchanged at $600 until August 31st, 2023. From September 1st, 2023, the fee will increase to $620. Payment is expected on the day of your appointment. Starting from January 1st, 2022, additional charges will apply for involving debt collection services if a client refuses to pay.

To ensure continuity of care, a detailed clinical report will be sent to your GP, keeping them informed of your progress. However, if you prefer not to have these reports sent to your GP or have any specific details you wish to exclude, please inform me.

As an experienced psychiatrist, I am skilled in diagnosing and treating various mental health conditions, including anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, bipolar disorders, psychotic disorders, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). I also have expertise in providing specialist psychiatric reports for visa applicants required by Immigration New Zealand, as well as independent psychiatric assessments and opinions for insurance companies. I am fluent in Chinese, including Cantonese and Mandarin, and have worked with patients from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds, including international students from countries such as America, Canada, United Kingdom, South America, South Africa, Middle East, China, India, and Korea.

Your initial psychiatric assessment report and subsequent follow-up consultation reports will be sent to the referrer, usually your GP, as per our standard practice. If there is any sensitive information you do not wish to be included in these reports, please inform Dr. Tan.

Payment for consultation fees is expected at the end of each appointment and can be made through EFTPOS, cash, or online banking transfer. If you have Southern Cross Health Insurance, please provide your policy number. It's important to note that there is a maximum coverage limit for each appointment, which may not cover the full amount. Please check your policy for the maximum amount you are covered per policy year. If you have health insurance with another provider, you will need to make payment and submit a claim to your insurance company. If you require a receipt, please inform Dr. Tan.
