Āwhina Centre - Burnett Foundation Aotearoa
About the Business
Welcome to the Āwhina Centre - Burnett Foundation Aotearoa, located at 187 Willis Street, Wellington, New Zealand. As an establishment dedicated to health and well-being, we strive to provide a safe and inclusive space for individuals seeking support and information regarding sexual health.
If you are experiencing symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection (STI) or have been informed by a sexual partner that they have tested positive for an STI, we encourage you to seek assistance from our Sexual Health department or your General Practitioner (GP). By doing so, you can receive timely treatment while awaiting your test results.
In the event that you have encountered a potential HIV exposure within the last 72 hours, it is important to consider Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP). PEP refers to medication that can be taken after engaging in sexual activity, with the potential to prevent HIV infection. We recommend consulting with our healthcare professionals to determine if PEP is suitable for you.
Please note that the earliest timeframe for HIV testing is 2-4 weeks after a high-risk event, such as unprotected sex. Additionally, it is essential to undergo a follow-up test 12 weeks after the event to ensure accurate results. More information about the window period can be obtained from our knowledgeable staff.
To receive the best possible care, it is recommended to undergo HIV testing, as well as testing for other STIs and kidney function, under the guidance of your prescribing doctor or at a local sexual health clinic. It is important to note that our rapid HIV testing is not suitable for individuals on Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP).
For individuals taking PrEP, whether on a daily basis or using the 2-1-1 dosing regimen, comprehensive testing is crucial. This includes blood samples taken from a vein, in addition to the standard STI screening and other necessary tests. We advise scheduling an appointment with your prescribing doctor or visiting a local sexual health clinic for this purpose.
Similarly, for individuals who have completed a course of PEP, it is essential to undergo testing with your prescribing doctor or at a local sexual health clinic. Blood samples taken from a vein will be required to ensure proper evaluation and care.
At the Āwhina Centre - Burnett Foundation Aotearoa, we are committed to providing the highest level of care and support throughout your sexual health journey. Please do not hesitate to reach out to our dedicated team for further information or to schedule an appointment.
