Roskill South Kindergarten

Welcome to Roskill South Kindergarten, located at 1327 Dominion Road Extension in Mount Roskill, Auckland. Our establishment is not just a school, but a point of interest that creates strong partnerships with whānau (families) and fosters meaningful relationships with the nearby Hillsborough Heights retirement village. We take pride in our deep connections within the local community.

Our teaching team consists of early childhood qualified and registered teachers who are dedicated to providing a high-quality learning program based on the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whāriki. They are passionate about early childhood education and skilled at implementing research-based practices that develop and strengthen learning dispositions, knowledge, and skills in your children. This approach supports them in becoming motivated learners who love to lead their own learning based on their interests and passions.

One of the highlights of our kindergarten is our weekly outdoor program called "Bush Kindergarten" at Bob Bodt Reserve, located directly behind our facility. This unique classroom without walls allows our children to explore and learn about the natural world while promoting appropriate risk-taking and challenges.

We embrace a growth mindset, not just in the children we care for, but also in ourselves as teachers. In 2003, we were selected as a Centre of Innovation and participated in a three-year action research project on Strengthening Learning and Teaching using ICT. Our teachers have been influential in inspiring educators throughout New Zealand and beyond. In fact, we were finalists in the 2016 Prime Minister’s Education Excellence awards for Excellence in Engaging, showcasing our ongoing commitment to research and innovation in learning and teaching practices.

Our team continues to be leaders in the early childhood education field, contributing to articles, books, facilitating workshops, and presenting at conferences for the wider community. We are proud of the recognition we have received for our efforts.

At Roskill South Kindergarten, we prioritize respectful interactions, high expectations, and sustained conversations with the children, which contribute to their confidence, capability, and eagerness to learn. We encourage authentic leadership in our students, reflected in their portfolios and program documents. Our teachers are inclusive and culturally responsive, celebrating diversity and valuing the knowledge and strengths of our families.

Our kindergarten operates from Monday to Friday, from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm, and our office hours are from 8 am to 4:45 pm. We are closed during term breaks and public holidays.
