Torbay Kindergarten
About the Business
Welcome to Torbay Kindergarten, the oldest kindergarten in the East Coast Bays of Auckland, New Zealand. Established in 1969, our institution has a rich history of providing quality early childhood education to children in the community.
At Torbay Kindergarten, we believe in the importance of incorporating the principles of Te Whāriki, the Early Childhood Curriculum, into our daily experiences. We also honor the principles of Tiriti o Waitangi, which emphasize partnership, participation, and protection. Our curriculum reflects the unique bi-cultural heritage of Aotearoa, New Zealand.
We value the essence of maanakitanga, which encompasses respect, kindness, care, and empathy. We encourage everyone to recognize that we are all in this together and that nothing exists in isolation. By nurturing the whakatauki "He waka eke noa," we empower our community to see themselves as part of something bigger.
Whanaungatanga is at the heart of our kindergarten. We strive to create a welcoming, caring, and fun community where children, families, and whānau feel a sense of belonging. Building relationships with parents, whānau, and the wider community is a vital part of our kaupapa.
Aroha is a key value at Torbay Kindergarten. We believe that every child is born with greatness and should be enveloped in a cloak of love and empathy. We honor each child's cultural context and value their unique identity within their family/whānau and community.
Kaitiakitanga, or guardianship of the environment, is another important aspect of our curriculum. Grounded in a te ao Māori perspective, we encourage children to be active explorers and self-directed learners. We aim to extend their strengths and interests while instilling a sense of responsibility towards the environment.
Our teachers play a crucial role as facilitators, observers, and scaffolders of learning. They inspire possibilities and positive outcomes through reciprocal relationships, research, and reflection. Our assessments reflect each child's innate ways of being.
We strive to empower our tamariki to build courage, curiosity, confidence, responsibility, and resilience. Our goal is for them to become seen, heard, valued, and respected members of the wider world.
Torbay Kindergarten offers sessions for both older and younger group children, with flexible timings to accommodate families' needs. Our teachers are excellent and ensure that every child feels welcome and supported. Don't just take our word for it - many parents have shared their positive experiences and the growth they've seen in their children.
We are affiliated with the Northern Auckland Free Kindergarten Association Inc., and our address is PO Box 35 223, Browns Bay, Auckland 0753.
Join us at Torbay Kindergarten, where learning is a joyful and enriching experience for every child.
