"I've been coming back to Islington Inn since 2019. I lived in 5 different rooms (single and double) and I can say that this is the place I will return to again. Here's why: 1) Friendly, helpful, nice staff (especially Roman and Hasu - two the most professional and lovely guys you meet at the reception). You can always ask for directions, attractions, weather, fridge storage of your goods, or just have a nice conversation. They can even help you to find a right cheaper store for the item you need. 2) Great location. Islington is a good area with low crime rate, beautiful residential blocks, and lovely little parks. Moreover, there're several buses, which go to different parts of the City Center/North/South. Not far from the hotel there're overground, underground and train station. There're 2 supermarkets, fruit markets, pubs, fish&chips, restaurants, takeaways, laundry services and any shops you can imagine. Angel station (not far) has shopping center. You can also reach Dalston in 10-15 minutes on foot for a wider choice of restaurants (Pret, Pizza, McDonalds, something fancier), Western Union office, big Sainsbury's, Boots, Superdrug, Argos. 3) Sometimes low price. If you're planning your trip in advance, you can get a great price for the room. 4) Rooms have everything you need: comfortable beds, bins, kettles, cups, tea/coffee/sugar, closets, nightstands with lamps, mirrors, TV, fast wi-fi, shower cabins, clean toilets, central heating. There were days when I spent the whole time in my room, and I have nothing to complain about (probably because I'm a practical person and I'm not pursuing overabundant luxury). 5) You can easily open windows (I previously tried one hotel where I couldn't fill the room with fresh air because the window frame was nailed shut). 6) Nice view from any side of the hotel. 7) Relatively quiet, especially of your window is overlooking the yard. And if not, the road isn't that busy at night anyway, you can even hear birds singing. 8) Safety. I'm a girl travelling alone, so it's an important thing for me. Yes, there're sadly no breakfasts anymore (and they were great in the past), but still, with crazy London prices, this place wins for so many reasons. And, yes, I'm personally a fan of old buildings, and for an old building this one is REALLY warm and cozy. I lived here in December, January and February. I recommend Islington Inn to those practical people, who want to spend an active vacation in London or come here for business."
"When you rent a room here, you get what you pay for. The worst experience is going up the stairs and then through the corridor. It only gets better after that. The room was very clean, quite big, with a small TV and a big window. A few sachets of coffee, tea, electric kettle. The bathroom was clean and towels available. Service was very nice and helpful. At the end of the trip, I got an invoice without any problems. Good place to stay on a business trip if you don't spend half a day at the hotel. To be honest, I expected the conditions to be worse, so a big applause… But I wouldn't come here with a child."
"It’s what you pay for. I felt safe, but not exactly secure. Locked my suitcase when out of the room. Small single, en-suite and private emergency exit (basement). If you are tall you’ll need to sleep diagonally. Hot Water cools off by around 9am and is still cold in the afternoon. Essex road is a central route for busses to Waterloo, Victoria and Kingscross. Jogging route north to Clissold park. I would stay here again, but would not recommend to my mother or wife."
"I booked this for an overnight stay as we were going to a gig nearby and just wanted a place to rest our heads and London room prices have sky rocketed. I had low expectations going in but somehow it managed to fall below even these. We had room 200 and we opened the door to it reaking of smoke. When I asked the staff member if smoking was allowed, he said, no its a non smoking hotel and they have smoke alarms so would know if anyone smoked. So I suggested he smell the room which he did and he conceded it smelt of smoke. The only remedy offered was to spray air freshener twice in our room whilst we were out for the evening, which did absolutely nothing to help the smell. As it was overnight and had nowhere else to stay we put up with it. But at 7.30am we did have the smoke alarm go off, so clearly someone was attempting to smoke in another room. The room n bathroom was cleanish. The floor was sloping which was disorientating. I spoke to the staff member to say their Google description was misleading and incorrect including the photos and he said it became a hotel about 9 years ago. And the photos of the rooms had been updated when the new owners took over. So I showed him to prove the photos hadn't been updated and we agreed that 9 years is sufficient enough time to update Google and he should tell the owners. But I doubt that if they didn't bother in 9 years they're unlikely to update it now!"
"Avoid this 'hotel' at all costs! Corridor's are filthy, although the room seemed clean. There was a very strong smell of cannabis, which permeated the rooms. In addition to this, the fire alarm went off in the early hours two nights running."
