Reviews of Westow House Pub & Hotel
"I didn't stay in any rooms but had a drink. The atmosphere is welcoming. The staff are nice. At the time they hadn't had the full menu of drinks as delivery issues. The bar could be made a bit larger as people tend to stay at the bar drinking and taking the space. Otherwise nice pub."
"Sunday lunch was pretty reasonable...big Yorkshire pudding, nice slice of beef. I would've liked a little more meat and much more veggies. The veggies were lovely, but only a small spoonful of each. At £20 for the beef, I feel that an extra spoonful of veg wouldn't be too much to ask for. The major let down was the service. We had booked ahead and arrived on time at 13.15. Although there were free tables, the team seemed to struggle to seat us so we were left waiting for about 5 minutes before being sent upstairs where we had to wait again before being pointed to one if the many vacant tables which did not have a reserved sign on. We took a quick look at the menu and went straight back to order only to be told that the kitchen weren't taking any orders and that it might be a 20 minute wait...but he couldn't be sure. No reason was given or real apology. After about 15 minutes were were told we could now order and the food then arrived within 20 minutes. We don't mind a bit if a wait, but would have appreciated a bit more customer service and communication. Maybe telling us when we arrive that there are problems, or offering to take the order and put it through when he could or even just to call us over so we wouldn't have to queue again but we had to ask to be told when we could order. Shame that this really made us feel unwelcome."
"I was moderately impressed when I entered your establishment at the hour of 20.30. However I must process, dear sirs (and madams of course), that your last drinks policy leaves a lot to be desired! To serve one among many in the group is quite preposterous! Do you expect us to watch our young companion while he sippeth upon the ebony delight that is a pint of Guinness while we sit out on the cold without drink and without hope? No thank you very much sir."
"Went there for a birthday lunch, food was good, both waitresses kind and polite but the guy who managed the place (set there on his laptop by the bar, baseball cap as a fashion statement) should consider a change in career. No greeting, no thank you when taking order and payment, got the order mixed up, no apologies, no acknowledgement whatsoever when we were leaving. If you want to keep him, stick him in the kitchen as a KP, he's unfit in a customer facing role. Not coming back."
