Nestled at 7584 Thompson Road in Cincinnati, Ohio, Oak Glen Nature Preserve is a cherished haven for nature enthusiasts and conservationists alike. Managed by Great Parks of Hamilton County, this pristine park spans an impressive 402 acres, offering a sanctuary for diverse native wildlife and mature forests.
A Natural Gem with Rich Biodiversity
Oak Glen Nature Preserve is a testament to minimal land disturbance, boasting many uncommon native species and a remarkable absence of non-native plants. It provides a vital habitat for two state-endangered animals, the cave salamander and the lark sparrow, as well as two potentially threatened plant species, the pale umbrella sedge and spring coral-root.
Preserving Nature's Beauty
The preserve's history is deeply rooted in conservation. In 1999, Karen and Eugene Schunk, passionate about preserving nature, entrusted their 109-acre property to Great Parks. Over the years, additional parcels have been added, ensuring the continued protection and enhancement of this natural treasure.
Environmental Stewardship
In March 2014, Oak Glen faced a significant environmental challenge when a nearby pipeline rupture released crude oil into the preserve. Great Parks has been actively involved in remediation and restoration efforts, collaborating with the U.S. EPA, Ohio EPA, and other partners to address the spill's long-term impacts. Restoration projects include stream stabilization, invasive species removal, and reforestation with native species.

Please note that Oak Glen Nature Preserve does not offer public parking or facilities, including restrooms. A valid Motor Vehicle Permit is required for park entry. Despite these limitations, the preserve remains a serene escape, inviting visitors to explore its natural wonders and contribute to ongoing conservation efforts.
