Court Structure:
Knox County is served by five General Sessions Courts, each specializing in different types of cases:
- First Sessions Court: Misdemeanor cases
- Second Sessions Court: DUI cases
- Third Sessions Court: Felony cases
- Fourth Sessions Court: Traffic and bonded-arraignment cases
- Fifth Sessions Court: Civil cases
The five General Sessions Judges serve on a rotational basis, collectively hearing over 60,000 cases annually.
Courtroom Rules and Weather Policy:
Please adhere to all courtroom rules to avoid exclusion. The courts will be closed if Knox County schools close due to inclement weather. However, if schools are delayed, courts will open on time. The Sessions Court Clerk’s Office will remain open during normal business hours regardless of school closures unless otherwise notified.

"Stansbury said I needed a lawyer to pay them money when I can handle the case myself by law that you can represent yourself he got upset because I wouldn't pay my money for a lawyer so he made me waiting to court the whole time until the prosecutor said the people were not in court that accused me awfully that the police accused me falsely beat me up"
