Welcome to Hawkeye Log Cabin, a cherished gem located at 2915 South Main Street, Burlington, Iowa. As a proud part of the Des Moines County Historical Society, our museum and tourist attraction invites you to explore the rich history and vibrant spirit of Des Moines County.
Our mission is to educate and engage both residents and visitors with captivating stories and exhibits that celebrate the people and events that have shaped this unique region. As a privately funded 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we depend on the generosity of our community and supporters to continue preserving and sharing our local heritage.
Join us in our efforts by becoming a member or contributing to our building fund. We are excited to offer a dynamic lineup of programs, events, and board meetings in 2023, ensuring there is always something new to discover at Hawkeye Log Cabin.
We are thrilled to welcome Colton Neely, a University of Iowa graduate, as our new Executive Director, and Tim Blackwell, a history graduate from Illinois College, as our first Assistant Director. Their passion and expertise will undoubtedly enhance our offerings and visitor experience.

"Beautiful area. Many trails to walk , pond, band shelter fountain, playgrounds,even spooky storys of a haunted road to walk. The log cabin is really cool to check historic site. It's great park & lots to do there"
"I did not get to go inside as it had just closed. But the grounds were fabulous. Huge outdoor fireplace that was burning. The fall colors were great and with the river down below it added to the ambience. Exploring the woods was really fun and finding the spring and cave was cool. I could imagine having an outdoor wedding and or reception here."
"You can explore the past or just a great backdrop for pictures, a family outing (using the fireplace just down from the museum. It is originally called the Hawkeye Natives Log Cabin. Made for the meetings of some of Iowa's first settlers. The museum allows you into the artifacts and settings from the bygone era. If you want to just enjoy it for rest, it's there. There are trails just to the southeast of the cabin leading to the Blackhawk Springs; this is where Blackhawk used to supply his people. The cabin has a very rich history and has a beautiful vista of the mighty Mississippi."
"Best picnic spot in Burlington! Panoramic view of the river, beautiful trees and grass areas, a short hike down to a waterfall, and bald eagles flying over in the winter months!"
