"I never post reviews but experienced the worst customer service of my life, I'm still in shock! I'm a member of REI and have been for a few years. I brought my 9 year old daughter in this evening after work and camp to browse and scope out some hiking shoes for her and running shoes for me. I also had a reward to use. We weren't greeted when we walked but didn't think much. We headed towards the shoes and just barely looked at the shelves when a young worker came over immediately and what we were looking for I said just browsing as I didn't need any sizes yet as I hadn't even looked at the display. He was so rude and appeared completely bothered to even be working. He came over multiple times al through I didn't request assistance or need any yet. I asked for some sizes as I felt pressured to do so, found some hiking shoes for my daughter he threw the boxes down at us but we weren't too fazed just puzzled. I then headed to look over at the women's running shoes. He came over and asked if I needed help again I said I've been contemplating a few brands (brooks versus ON) he didn't even make eye contact said "yeah" then sat down on the bench (where you try on shoes) and sat in his phone. I was absolutely over it asked for two different pairs to try on, both of which he threw down on the bench, settled on a pair and checked out. Even my 9 year old felt like we were a bother to be there. We are very easy customers and I felt very unwelcome and pressured. The woman cashier however was great, but this guy needed a serious customer service course."

"Stood over in men's hiking shoes for almost 20 minutes, no one addressed us, said hello, or offered help. To shop shoes, you must have help as they have no inventory on the floor. The place was not busy at all, so there was no excuse of "everyone was too busy" saw plenty of available employees who seemingly tried to avoid eye contact (but were fine staring at us when they thought we weren't looking). Not going to waste my time. The employees at this store need to learn the basics of customer service. Way to discourage someone from starting an outdoor hobby."

"Reese in footwear is incredibly patient, professional, and knowledgeable! We witnessed her navigate a challenging customer very gracefully, and she helped me find a great new pair of walking shoes! Thanks, Reese!"

"The staff are always friendly and very knowledgeable about the products they sell. I got the coop membership mainly to support the workers, and I got my investment back within a month after purchasing a decent backpack and some clothes I needed for my outdoor activities. It is hard to justify full retail, but the 10% back annual allows me to try the newest gear. The men's clearance section is clearly an afterthought and usually consists of XL and above sizes. The used gear section is always hit-or-miss. I don't understand how some people can literally destroy the items and return them. Savages. I was able to pick up some Arc'teryx & Fjallraven gear for ~60% off, which will be fantastic for my upcoming mountaineering trip. I would travel to the Scottsdale/Paradise Valley location as they have way more selection on clothes and gear."

"Horrible customer service from bearded man in the walking shoes area. I asked if REI matches the price online from manufacturer and he waived his hand dismissing me like he was irritated at my question and said no. He later followed me at the hiking shoes section and scoldingly told me to put 2 pairs of shoes back in the display even as I was still trying to decide which shoe to buy. I had to report this rude behavior to the manager. It is unfortunate as i live so close to this location. I ended up buying 2 high-end pairs of HOKA from Runners World. I am never shopping at this location."
