Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines

"The room was mediocre, wasn’t upgraded and very dated. Scenic view but extremely basic for a 4-star hotel. Front desk staff was helpful, but their leadership is terrible. Assistant GM David is absolutely horrible to engage wit. Virtually non-communicative. Called him 4 times as they charged me a regular room rate instead of my corporate travel rate that I clearly had receipts for via my company’s travel service. He would not honor it even though the info was emailed to him. We had multiple text exchanges and he basically ghosted me. Still have the emails and text messages. He said he’d get back to me multiple times and just disappeared. I’m not sure how someone with that complete lack of transparency and communication could be in that position where customer service is the foundation of your position. Their prices are definitely 5 - Star, but that service comes up extremely short. Completely disappointed in the leadership staff."

"Came here on my honeymoon and was thoroughly disappointed with the entire experience. Paid several hundred dollars extra for a room with a view and this was what they gave me. On the website I booked an “ocean view” room. After I asked about the view from the room I was given told me it was a “limited view” room when nowhere on the website did it indicate it was limited view. Management was extremely unhelpful and kept saying that this is their “ocean golf” view. They did not provide any help or solutions to make our stay better. The walls are paper thin and you can hear every conversation people in the hallway and neighboring rooms are having. The food at the restaurant is also nauseating at best. Avoid at all costs."

"Mediocre hotel not worth the 4 stars! The room was quite dated and things were falling apart! Tried using the shower gel in the bathroom just one day and it fell off! Called the front desk to come repair, they came with another shower gel instead! Realized their mistake and said they’d get someone else to come fix who never came! Carpet was tired looking, bathroom parts looked rusted it was just not the standard I expected from a Hilton! Restaurant food was expensive and uninspiring! Check in was atrocious super long lines with very slow movement! For a resort I’ve paid less for more at far superior places! Wouldn’t stay again!"

"Overall, service was good and friendly staff. Few issues I noticed . One was at the checking at the lobby where the person managing my checking process didn't provide any direction and information about the place. Second, They have mandatory vouchers that they charge to my room for daily drinks (2 beers or 2 wines per day). Room was nice and clean. However, Parking is super expensive $40 / day for my standard."

"Maybe this hotel was given an 'extra credit' star for its location, but the hotel itself is a 2.5-3 star, at best. Rooms are worn and not well-maintained. After flying 7 hours and getting here at check-in, our room was not ready. By 5, still not ready. They gave us a similar room with what they said was a comparable view, but it's mostly of the pool area. Customer service for the inconvenience was also lacking, but staff were generally friendly. We ate at the lower level restaurant, which had a very limited menu and served sub-par bar food. With such limited offerings, you'd think that the items served would be excellent. They were not. My husband pulled a bone out of his sea bass that was at least 3 inches long. My burger tasted like it was cooked IN a fire. Decor is also dated and worn. Our server was friendly, though. There is in-room coffee, but you're given one single regular coffee and a single decaf coffee, which is kind of ridiculous. The website also states there are shuttles you can use for 1 local trip a day. Which isn't offered anymore, apparently. It surprises me that the site isn't updated to reflect this (a simple fix), and just another example of how this hotel is struggling to offer the service and experience it advertises. Edit to add: there is nothing wrong with a hotel that is a lower star. We're normally a 2-3 star family, so this was a special trip. It's about setting an expectation and not providing the service you advertise. We did have breakfast one morning, and again, great server. This isn't an employee issue, at all."
