San Diego Marriott Del Mar

"This is a newly built, multi story hotel equipped with a pool, hot tub, fitness center, and restaurant located in a commercial area with lots of office buildings. The beds, linens and pillows were very comfortable. The rooms were modern, clean and had good storage. There is a mini fridge, it’s just hidden from view. The lobby is not enormous, but it does contain a few comfy places to sit. There are also large event center spaces. There is a small cafe in the lobby with an assortment of coffee and pastries for a light breakfast if you don’t want to do a full sit down. We were trying to access both San Diego and Oceanside, so the location was perfect for us. The only down side was the parking is expensive. There are a few street parking spaces on one side if you can snag one. The heater in the pool was also broken, which was fine for the kids, but not for adults. The pool was primarily 3.5 feet which is nice for kids. Service was okay. We had made some simple requests for linens that went ignored after repeated asks."

"I don’t mean to rate all the service at the hotel as poor - in fact the parking attendants, front desk employees, restaurant servers were all very friendly and super helpful. My problem is with follow up - I was due to be credited for early closing of the lounge on my rooms, in early February. I’m following up with multiple phone calls - I was promised follow up and attention to this matter. But instead of a credit on my 2 rooms for the lounge being closed (which apparently an email was sent but I never received) I have been duplicate billed for 2 extra rooms I never booked. I have been told by multiple people (front desk, accounting) this is being resolved. But it is now March 1st and I haven’t been contacted, and am still waiting for response and resolution. I hope this is a very isolated incident and I am looking for a prompt, professional resolution to this."

"The hotel itself was great. The location wasn’t bad, and the restaurant stayed open late enough. Now the staff on the other hand, definitely has an attitude problem, and could use some training to understand how to deal with customers. The only exception is Nikolaus. Very personable and makes you feel you are an important guest."

"Update: After leaving this review they finally contacted me and refunded all of my money. I am glad they made it right but I wish they had just saved everyone time and energy and just done the right thing from the beginning. Charged me $466 FOR NO SERVICES RENDERED!!!! I love Marriott's and stay in them all the time but this Del Mar is not owned or managed be someone who believes in Customer service and or customer satisfaction. I needed to cancel my 2 night stay here because the location of the local lacrosse tournament changed. I asked to cancel my stay (just for me and my son) more than 2 weeks before our scheduled stay. I was told I had prepaid for my reservation and after 24 hours I am not allowed to cancel my stay (who would ever agree to this when they are flying into the city. so many things can change!) I have contacted them several times to no avail. They have my $466 and don't even care that I didn't even step foot into the hotel. Charging someone that amount of money for NO SERVICES RENDERED is a crime. Our team will never stay here again if this is the type of business you run."

"I had an incredible experience staying at the San Diego Marriott Del Mar! The hotel's location is fantastic, with the beach just a short drive away and easy access to nearby attractions. The staff was exceptionally friendly and accommodating, making me and my kids feel right at home. The rooms were spacious, clean, and well-appointed, providing a comfortable retreat after a day of exploring. My kids especially loved the on-site dining options, which offered delicious food, and we found room service to be equally tasty. Overall, it was a memorable and delightful stay, and I can't wait to return to this wonderful Marriott property in the future!"
