SportsSafe: Concussion. Brain. Body. is a pediatric concussion clinic located at 1600 West 38th Street in Austin, Texas. Our team of pediatric providers, including MDs and pediatric nurse practitioners, specialize in head injury and concussion management. We prioritize spending quality time with each patient to create personalized recovery plans and offer reassurance during the post-injury period. If your child experiences symptoms in addition to soreness after a head hit, it's important to seek evaluation for a concussion. Our sports physicals ensure that children are healthy enough to participate in athletic activities. Baseline testing is conducted before the athletic season begins to compare pre-injury and post-injury results. Please note that we do not accept patients with Medicaid coverage. "Don’t get me wrong! I feel like quality and care that my daughter is currently receiving is outstanding. The only issue that I have is that when you schedule your appointment it is never disclosed that these services are not normally covered by insurance companies. It wasn’t until I checked my daughter in and began to read the paperwork given to me that I saw a fee list. Then I asked the young lady to explain that to me. She then went bk to the front desk with my insurance card BCBS (I must say that I asked when I checked in did they need my insurance card, I was told no. So I checked in without my insurance and copay being paid, I found that strange). When she came bk I was told that my out of pocket for today was almost 360 dollars. I asked her do y’all not bill these services thru the insurance company. She explained no, we would pay upfront and then I myself will hv to submit a claim to be reimbursed. I refused, this concussion clinic is part of a pediatric clinic. The same person who treated my daughter also treat normal pediatric patients coming into the office. I asked her why wouldn’t I just pay my copay and be done. She then returned back to the front desk and came back and told me that was fine. Upon checking out after seeing the doctor I was told my fee was 240 something dollars, I explained that they needed to bill the insurance company and I will pay my copay. She too was fine with that. I will say that my daughter is getting excellent care from this concussion clinic, but I will say that this practice need to disclose all fees for their concussion clinic upfront and not after the fact when the patient is already being tested. Truth be told my daughters sports trainer uses the same testing for concussions but on a different platform. I just wish everything was explained upfront to me, rather than being surprised by the fee’s."
