"When I first started singing about a year and a half ago, I had no idea that learning to sing was like learning to play an instrument. I thought that you either had it or you didn't. My musician brother told me that I had good pitch and timing but needed to work on everything else. I began watching YouTube videos. Matt's videos stand out. I have learned a lot from watching them. Especially helpful we're the videos on 1) ugly voices are not ugly, they are unconventional (citing Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Lou Reed), 2) high notes are not really high, because the vocal cords are vertical, not horizontal, so stop reaching "up" for them (I've been using that tip and have improved because of it), 3) the video on the pyramid with pitch and rhythm at the bottom and moving up to head voice, chest voice, and mixed voice, and other things like tone. He quickly analyzed my main flaw: a weak or light chest voice. That is stopping me from moving up the pyramid so I'm working on that."

"Matt is a very knowledgable teacher and perhaps more importantly, excellent communicator. I have found my sessions with him to be relaxed but focused, and I actively enjoy working through his prescribed exercises every day. His insight into my specific needs has significantly improved my singing, both in terms of pitch and the release of tension on high notes. Of the half a dozen or so singing teachers I have experimented with over the years, Matt is firmly my favourite. I feel no need to look elsewhere for my vocal coaching needs. Bravo!"

"I first stumbled upon Matt’s website in June 2021 and was very impressed with his friendly and engaging approach. I also found him very informative and was encouraged to hear that one’s vocal range could actually be expanded. I have played guitar since I was a teenager but was always frustrated by not being able to sing my favorite songs - especially Beatles’ - because of my limited vocal range. I struggled to hit notes above middle C cleanly and could barely eck out a weak falsetto G4. So after exploring Matt’s website for about a month, I finally mustered the courage to sign up for an introductory lesson. I have since completed 17 one hour lessons with Matt. In last week’s lesson I hit a “Mum” B4 - almost an octave above middle C - with a solid mix. I can now sing several songs - including a few Beatles’ - that I had previously given up on. I still have plenty of room for improvement but am encouraged by my progress so far and plan to continue my lessons with Matt for the foreseeable future. Matt is a superb teacher. His friendly and unassuming appearance is for real and he has never lost patience with me, despite my giving him numerous opportunities! He also knows his stuff about singing technique and the universe of songs. Even though I am a generation older, he has been familiar with the melody and lyrics of every single song I have mentioned to him - even those going back to the 60s! Matt records all of his lessons and sends his students the recording within hours of each lesson. I find these invaluable for recalling all of his specific instructions and for keeping my daily practices on track between lessons, which I take about every two weeks. In summary, Matt is a superb teacher and taking lessons with him is fun and productive."

"Matt is an extraordinary musician. He sings and plays both the guitar and piano. He is also a very gifted songwriter. He provides the exercises and structure for everyone to become a confident singer. Not everyone is meant for Broadway, but Matt will make you feel like the soloist on center stage during your lesson time. He records every lesson to assist with your individual practice sessions and will politely encourage you to increase practice time outside of the lesson, if needed. He is all about helping you rediscover passion in singing and continuously improve so you are getting the most out of your investment. And most importantly, Matt's most remarkable quality as a teacher is that he listens to your story and understands how you enter the lesson to provide a safe space where music is a pathway for your personal healing and growth. Amazing teacher, even better human being! Highly recommend!"
