"They Discriminate against the disabled. Hello, I am 100% disabled and live more than 40 miles away from the 38th street location, in Austin Tx. I had to wait 2 months for an appointment, and must work around my 17 year old son’s schedule, so he can drive me to my appointments. He missed classes today in order to drive me, and wheel me in to the appointment, as I require a wheelchair. We left with 30+ minutes to spare, but due to traffic we were 12 minutes late. I called to let the office know that we were running a bit late due to traffic, and was told it was no problem. It took 6 minutes to park, get my wheel chair and get to the office. By this time they refused to see me. I was told my 12 year old daughter had to stand unsupervised in the hallway due to COVID policy. Absurd! I REFUSE to leave my child unsupervised. They would not waiver on this policy which would ultimately leave my child vulnerable to abduction/trafficking. My daughter will not stay home alone, and my son cannot stay with her since I rely on him to drive me to my appointments. I understand that there are policies, but not everyone is able to fit into specific categories. Each patient is unique, and has different needs, especially those like myself who are disabled. I certainly cannot control the flow of traffic, nor the staff’s incompetence which sent me to the wrong building once I arrived! I was told that since it took 6 minutes between my call and arriving at the front desk, I could no longer be seen. I am already at risk for breast cancer and recent examination showed 3 new suspicion areas. This incident only decreases my chances of early diagnosis. Not only was I treated poorly, the staff lacked empathy, and seemed only concerned with leaving the office on time. I was willing to wait and be worked in, but they refused. I also suggested completing only the medical history, and finishing the remaining paper work after my appointment, so I could be seen immediately. The PA said it was already past the allotted time for my appointment, meaning my appointment would’ve only been 18 minutes long! Unacceptable! This demonstrates a very poor standard of care. I also feel that I was discriminated against due to my disability and unique circumstances. I do not recommend this office and will be seeking my attorneys advice on how to bring a formal ADA complaint against them! UPDATE: Second Chance: I decided to try a telemed appointment with a different doctor from this group. Dr Sprunt was thorough and explained my imaging results well. That’s the only good thing I can say. The first words out of her mouth were to defend the poor actions of her staff & PA. I wasn’t seen on my first visit because I was 12 minutes late, told I could still be seen when I let them know I was running late, then ultimately turned away, as described in my initial comment. BUT, Dr Sprunt was almost 30 minutes late to my telemed appointment, I guess my time isn’t valuable because I’m not a doctor?!? The hypocrisy is ridiculous. Not only did I not receive an apology for the poor standard of care, misinformation given by the staff, discrimination, and the huge inconvenience they put me through, the issue was shrugged off, and I was treated with total apathy by of the doctor. While she was thorough, there was a clear inability to empathize with my concerns, and her bedside manner left much to be desired. I have difficulty trusting doctors who do not, or will not, connect with their patients. I’ll be moving on and will not waste any more of my time with this group. The incompetence and apathy spans from staff, to PA, and sadly to the Doctor as well."
