"UTRGV is not a place to go, in my opinion, like don't even create a student account with them because I promise you that they will try scamming money out of you somehow. My husband and I had signed for orientation back in the year 2019 when we were still in high school but called immediately to cancel when we found out that we had to pay $75 each and were told that we were good to go. Now, in 2023, out of random, we owe $75 each for the orientation that we canceled years back and never attended to either. Currently, we're emailing them back and forth, but I kid you not it's been already more than a month. Not only that, but We've tried calling no one answers, so we left our contact information and no callbacks once so ever. Very horrible service 10 out of 10 would not recommend. I also have a friend who transferred out of UTRGV because of how bad this university is."

"Most of the 5 star reviews are from visitors who think the university looks nice because its historical. The university itself is dysfunctional nobody at university for any department ever picks up the phone, and when they do, its 20 year olds getting paid $11 an hour so everyone is clueless youll get transferred multiple times because nobody knows anything, most things the university has don't work, the wifi is always out, parking is out of control, most of the degrees are worthless/useless, takes them about a week or two to reply to emails, alot of the staff are very incompetent, there is minimal student services, nothing to ever do at the university, it's like a ghost town."

"What a great disappointment this school caused to all the graduates and family members who gladly waited for this event by not having a covered place for this case of bad weather when they knew in advance of it more weather that was approaching. It was more comfortable for them to cancel and interrupt the students' plans and being that they charge very expensive tuition and they also warned at the last minute 8:30am of the cancellation"

"I got my undergraduate in Psychology here and I had a great experience. Had some great professors who were very supportive of my career goals, and I loved going to the library. People were really sweet too, both students and faculty. I would recommend it"

"I spent a semester studying here. The best thing to do in this city is to go to Walmart. Living in Brownsville is a nightmare. There are some really nice people there, but there are also a lot of really off people. I would not go to this school again. lol"
