"I’m glad I found Excelsior for my daughter. They partnered with me at every turn to make this year a success for her. They are caring and capable. All praises and no complaints..recommended."
"My daughter has started this year & she has improved so much. I can see a difference in her attitute. She will be coming back next year. The teachers seems to be very patient with all the kids."
"I had looked into Excelsior back when it first started, deciding against it, only because there were only two students and one teacher. My son needed a little more socialization, as we had home-schooled throughout most of his school years, as he was very non-compliant in public school. We went to another school for a couple of years, then looked back at Excelsior, who had grown to around 10 students and 2 teachers. I moved him there. Since moving him, my son has really "taken off" in his education. He works on IXL at his own pace, and also at home, and he does classwork at school. His handwriting has greatly improved in the past year. He actually wants to go to school now, and in the 7th grade, was testing into the 9th grade. His teachers are very attentive to his special needs and know how to handle him. The school has gone through several teachers since we have been here, but I see that as the director has very high expectations of his staff, and promptly removes them if they do not work out. He has very high aspirations for this school, and is well on his way to making Excelsior a fun place of children's education. He tries various ideas to motivate the children, and that's not easy. Each child has a different "high value treat" for which he/she will work very hard to obtain. Each child is placed into his/her own grade, but works at his own pace, and is also challenged by his teachers to come up to their grade level and beyond. Right now, they have several rooms rented at the Fame Well Montessori School, and space rented at a Montessori School in Katy, if needed, but as the school grows, I see them expanding into their own building, which would be great for the image of the school. Make no mistake about the image of the school, though. This school has been the best thing that has happened to my son since pre-school, and I highly recommend any person who is sick of the boxed treatment of their child in public school to give Excelsior a try. 6/3/18 My son has been going to Excelsior Academy for 2 years now. He just graduated and will be moving to a high school, but I wanted to reflect on his 2 years there. Excelsior has been the best move I have ever made for him. It was rough at first because of some change in staff and the getting used to a classroom with all ages, but now the staff is a perfect balance, and he eventually adjusted with the help of the teachers and the administrator. The whole “flavor” of the school is very different from public school, but from his testing scores, this school obviously works well. When you walk in, the students are in various forms of study, or they are on the playground interacting with each other, but whatever they are doing, it is much more relaxed and they are a family. There are several forms of disability in the classroom, and the teachers work very well with the students to make the classroom mesh together. The school’s attitude is based on acceptance and approval of and by all the students and teachers. There are more field trips than in a public school, and they work once a month in a local church’s garden who provides food to the shelters. It helps the students to understand service to their fellow human. It was a great experience for my son. If you can get over the “public school” image and give Excelsior a try, I think you will find your child will blossom, and he or she will eventually become much more settled at home. I know mine did and he was severe adhd."
"Excelsior was lots of help towards helping my son with his disability. He learned more in one semester than he did in 5 years of public school. Excelsior not only helped him learn on all materials but also with being more social. It was the best decision I have ever made!!"
"I was stressed out during Winter 2014 looking for a school for my daughter. My daughter is 7 years old and formerly attended a school in HISD. The school said they could help her in special education. She was diagnosed with ADHD, had trouble with reading and the school said that she would benefit from a 1:1 setting with behavior modification. The school said that she was not at her academic level and moved her to a behavioral class that was only boys from ages 8 to 11. This was not a conducive environment and my daughter was doing worse; she was stressed out, not learning and remained behind. As a mother, I found Excelsior Academy and saw a difference in the first day of class. She was placed in a class where she felt like she belonged. My daughter is benefiting from individualized attention at Excelsior; the teacher and the staff show they care about their students. They also worked hard to get my daughter on grade level. My daughter is finally happy to go to school each morning. As a parent, I made the monetary and time sacrifice to help my daughter to put her in a private school. It is worth the drive from central Houston to Sugar Land. The tuition is worth every penny."
