"Have only visited a hospital patient a few times; but the staff is always friendly and accommodating. (Plus the free coffee is very good and I was lucky to sample one of their freshly-baked cookies)"

"My wife and I came to the ER in November of 2023 for an ovarian cyst rupture. The IV she was given gave her an infection in her arm that traveled all the way to her wrist and above her elbow. We then had to return, at the suggestion of the hospital staff, because this type of infection can be serious if it travels any further. More than likely the cause of this was due to lack of sterilization. We were then charged $1,400 for the visit for the infection she received from treatment. When I spoke to their billing department and was escalated to their administration department and I believe the director of nursing, we were told, "this is something that happens and there really isn't much we can do". This wasn't a surface level infection, but an infection that was introduced deep in the tissue of her arm that traveled through most of her arm. To say I'm upset is an understatement... In the end, we are being charged $1,400 (after insurance) for something that the hospital caused her to go through, which she said was worse than the actual cyst rupture as she couldn't move her arm properly for weeks! They are passing the burden of hospital acquired infections due to poor sterilization procedures on to their patients. Blood infections can kill. Be better."

"My father was in St. Vincent’s ICU several months ago. Unfortunately, he did not recover, and we had to make the decision to remove life support. We have a large immediate family, and of course we all gathered on that day to say goodbye. As the nurse was in my father's room, she received a call from the woman admitting visitors into the locked ICU (which is done remotely). This call was audible to us in the room, including my father. We could clearly hear this employee complain to the nurse that we were a pain because my dad had a large family, and she was having to buzz us all into the ICU. My father passed away just a few moments after her comment. My deepest apologies to this poor woman - how traumatic that must have been for you! It must have been so difficult reaching for that button and pressing just a few more times that day to allow a grieving family to say goodbye to a loved one. Very few people would have the stamina to do that. I sincerely hope you recovered from the trauma of it all and given a bonus for all the extra work you had to do - perhaps even awarded Employee of the Month! I know this must happen to you frequently, being pushed to the limit and going above and beyond, as the nurse didn't even get mad at you. In fact, she politely let you know we were in the room while you were ranting about us - whoops! Really, the fact that you felt so comfortable saying that to the nurse tells us this kind of whining (oh, excuse me, "voicing concerns") happens all the time in the ICU. Oh, but compassion and care for the patients and their families really aren't as important as your comfort. We truly understand that. Thanks for making us feel so wonderful and cared for during my father's last moments. Really, thank you. Such kind, compassionate care at St. Vincent’s ICU, and I truly hope someday you encounter the same. You deserve it! (Oh, and please, please, don’t go through any bother of answering this review with the request of “to please contact you”....the nurse on duty had a little conscience left to alert her supervisor, who came in and "sincerely apologized". Problem solved - yay!)"

"Hit or miss with this hospital. Maternity ward staff is amazing! Some staff on ICU and IMCU not so much. Again, hit or miss with the staff on these floors because some are amazing while some will leave you in your room for hours on end and don't check on you unless you call. Even when you call they don't answer or take forever. You can tell which ones really care and which ones are just there for the pay."

"Do not sent anyone you care about here. There is little to no coordination of treatment or communication among the staff. The number of times a medical provider told my family member something untrue or inaccurate about his conditions/prognosis was shocking. And it wasn’t something small - a nurse told my family member who was there with organ failure that the organ failure had reversed and he was fine, would be discharged soon. And then later the doctor came in and had no clue why that was communicated because it was not the case. More than once a nurse came in to give him medication he had already received shortly before that. The case managers are atrocious and it’s almost like a game or a joke to them about helping with a safe discharge and aftercare options. Truly, for the health and safety of anyone you care about, find another emergent/acute care option."
