Perdido Key Snorkeling Reef

"Well I couldn't find the reef. Search for a while went our pretty far. But it was a bit merky... I did however spot many sting rays, fish, crabs, hundred of sand dollars close to the shore. So much fun. Beautiful. My kids enjoyed it too."

"As of Sept 8 2023 the yellow triangle is gone. Both myself and another pair of snorkelers had no luck in finding the reef. Maybe the waves associated with Hurricane Idalia took out the yellow triangle. Who do we notify about the missing triangle?"

"I'm giving 5 stars for the Area it's in. This is likely the best shore snorkeling you'll find in the panhandle. So, if you're looking for a fix - here's your spot. I wasn't expecting much. But was surprised at how much I DID see. These man-made reefs are such a great project for wildlife. No -it's not rainbow coral and Carribbean seas, but it's gorgeous wildlife to be appreciated nonetheless. I was SHOCKED by the amount of fish I saw. I also saw a large stingray and a sea turtle! Definitely worth the swim out! Reef is only marked by a yellow triangle and you do have to swim out a pretty good ways. Beach is nice, but as another review said -Private property mostly. Johnson Beach is right down the road and you could walk (swim or paddle) to this location from there if needed."

"This is a really fun little reef to explore. My two boys (12 & 14) and I enjoyed an hour or so playing on the various structures. There were a variety of interesting fish and the visibility was 10 feet or so. We took the paddle boards now, because it's about 500 ft off the shore. just make sure to have the triangle and square on the shore lined up as you paddle out. You will see the reef as shadows and you know you're there. I wouldn't attempt to do this when the winds are over eight miles per hour or so. Update 5/29/23: I just took the kids back out there. It was super fun and the water was very clear and calm. It’s all so much easier to take 16 and 17 year olds out now. We had two stand up paddle boards, and that is a fantastic support system for tired, snorkelers, and chatting about what you saw! Highly recommend."

"The beach is taken up by the hotels labeled private property, so be careful where u set up. Also don't know if it was just today but the water was ugly. Dirty looking. Floating w plants n it caused itchiness. Snorkeling is located beyond the ocean you gotta kayak there so that was a bummer. Other than that still a beautiful view and a nice walk. Collected some shells. (spotted 1 Portable restroom)"
