"Ordered and paid for a Mossberg shotgun for my son for his birthday on NOV 23rd 2023. I went to the store aware that I would have to pass a background check because I had done that while buying a pistol some years back. Back then there was no 3 day wait after the background check and I was able to take the pistol the same night. I was unaware of a 3 day wait and while I was there no one mentioned it to me as I inspected the gun and the serial number. I waited over an hour for the background check and finally had to leave. I was assured the check would continue after I left but I was never told about the 3 day wait. i came back 2 days later to pick the gun up and I was confused when the manager Paul said there was an additional wait since it was never mentioned to me. I was annoyed at that point and asked him why no one told me about the 3 day wait when I was there the first time on the previous Tuesday. I would not have waited over an hour for the background check had I known. Paul took exception to my question and said he didn't like my attitude. I was annoyed but did not lose my temper or yell at him. He then said he would cancel my order if I continued. I then turned to leave and then he called me back and said he was cancelling my order even when I was leaving. Needless to say he very unprofessional and rude and never tried to explain anything to me and to cancel the purchase after I was already leaving shows immaturity and a unfit temperament for a manager. I understand I was unaware of the law change from the time I last purchased a firearm but I don't buy guns anymore. As I had said it was a birthday present. I ended up ordering the same gun from Sportsman warehouse. I will certainly never buy even a sports drink from Sports Academy."

"Just had the best experience at this location. Shopping was easy and the staff were super helpful. Shout out to the manager Matt for ensuring we were taken care off, even helping load our purchase into the car. Will be back!"

"The store is clean, well lit, and staffed by employees who genuinely seem to care about the job. The selection in the areas I was interested in were well stocked and offered a good selection. The ding on the 5th star is only over the pricing. It's a little expensive, for some items, over other big box stores or Amazon. But it's hit or miss. There are really good deals to be found, but it definitely requires some price comparison shopping. They price match but only against identical items, and many of their offerings are endemic to Academy Sports. All that said there's something inherently valuable in being able to pick up and hold an item before purchasing it."

"Store workers were nice. Store was clean. This store advertises outside "Guaranteed Best Prices" but I usually shop at the lake mary store and they offer a military discount which even though online it states in general that academy offers a military discount and lake mary location does this location refused to honor it even when I showed proof that they do offer one. Also this location had an issue with hanger sizes not matching actual sizes which definitely made shopping take a lot longer which was definitely hard when shopping with children."
