"I hired 3 recent graduates of the Marine Mechanics Institute and I just have to let you know I have never been more disappointed in my entire life, the incompetence, inexperienced, and stupidity that i witnessed was second to none, they pryed, hammered, stripped and broke more parts and pieces than I could ever imagine, It was like watching 3 monkeys blank a football,,With one job after the assembly they realized they forgot to install some parts in the motor, so they just threw them away, I've never in my entire life regretted anything more than hiring the 3 of them, I absolutely pity the next person that hires them."

"This is a terrible school that offers a terrible education. The instructors are great, but their hands are tied by an awful curriculum design. If you want to read textbooks and watch videos online to get a bare minimum understanding go for it, but even then it feels like a scam."

"After being accepted I decided not to go based how expensive the it is. Even after FAFSA I would've had 10 grand to worry about, whether that be paying with grants, loans or out of pocket. In-housing sounded like jail...5 or 6 people in a 3 bedroom apartment at the cheapest. All In-housing options are not cheap...rent a room on your own if you go. I work at a marine service shop now and they said word for word "We're glad you didn't go, that school is a joke. Everyone that comes from there goes by the books and doesn't know the problems a mechanic faces." "You'd just end up learning how to disassemble and reassemble an engine that's been done a thousand times." Representatives are very helpful and will always return your call if not answered. Based on my research and experience I would recommend doing grunt work for a service shop to get schooling paid for by the company. Or go to school somewhere like Mercury where you'll get certified and not just given a certificate of completion. This school is quick to start and finish if you have the money and is Well Known. It opens up a large range of doors. Don't expect to become a mechanic after graduation. Repair and Replace will be your strong points from MMI. Don't finish schooling here."

"This school was an amazing blessing for me. All of the instructors are very knowledgeable and will go out of their way to help students understand the material. It is affordable and they will help you find funding to assist with tuition. This is the only school you want to go to if you are considering a career in the marine industry."

"I was able to graduate from MMI with a 4.0. I feel that I did learn a great deal from the school, but it is still not worth the money. The person that met with me before signing up for the school very much over sold the school. I was in the Navy at the time and she met up with me and of course tells you the best stories ever about how great everybody is doing when they get out of the school and how much money you will make and how they really help you find a job. That is not the case as soon as you get to the school they tell you actually what the average mechanic will make and are absolutely no help at finding you a job. Also this school is idiot proof as long as you pay your money and show up you get the certificate. You really need to be flexible on where you want to work also. Some parts of the country have very little opportunity. Of the people I still keep in touch with from class I know 2 people who are in the industry. My one friend is making a killing but that kind of work was just not available where I lived. Honestly in my opinion you are best to try and find someplace where you could work under somebody and you will learn all you need to know and save 30k + in cost of living and tuition. On a better note I did meet my dream girl in Orlando and we are now happily married with a child. So to me that justified the cost. Other than that once I saw that being a boat mechanic didnt pay anywhere close to what I wanted to make I went back to college and am making 3 times what I could ever make being a boat mechanic But I do enjoy being able to work on my own boat. Take it how you will just remember A 30k student loan will cost you about 10 years at about $350 a month to pay off. That is a lot considering you will probably not make over $15 starting at a shop.. To me this is a skill that is best learned on the job because bottom line even out of this school you still have no work experience and are going to get paid the same as a guy that has about a years shop experience that he learned on the job from the same type of people that are teaching the classes but that guy is not 30k in debt (a years pay Before taxes at $15/hour)."
