"Mount Sinai will make you jump through hoops even if you already attained letters. I do not live in NYC so I never worked with Mount Sinai before. In anticipation I was able to acquire letters from my own team of primary, psychiatrist, and social worker for SRS, which took me months. I made the appointment with the surgeon, had the date booked and it was good. About a week or two later they called me because I needed a social worker to evaluate me before seeing the surgeon. When I asked why was this necessary if I already have all letters I was told they can’t accept them… I did end up going to one session with a social worker but they never wrote a letter!? And then they made more appointments with two other therapists… I don’t understand what we were doing besides wasting my time and money. In the end I have cancelled all appointments and if you don’t have the time or money to go to multiple appointments for no reason then do not go to Mount Sinai."
"From start to finish I had a horrible experience at Mount Sinai CTMS this year and would NOT recommend any trans person go there. From first contact, scheduling with Nico was extremely difficult and delayed my receiving care for months. I was finally scheduled at the wrong location without the necessary equipment for the procedure my PCP referred, even after I sent the referral and called to confirm so I could prepare physically and mentally. Because they did not have the proper equipment for the procedure I needed on the day of my appointment, Dr. Zoe Rodriguez and Dr. Emily Schmidt-Beuchat decided I should have a different invasive test performed instead. On TWO separate occasions, the samples Dr. Emily Schmidt-Beuchat collected came back as unsatisfactory: the first was an insufficient sample and the second was OBSCURED BY BLOOD due to aggressive collection. Horrific!!! Communication about my results and appointments was terrible. Dr. Zoe Rodriguez's bedside demeanor was glib and dismissive and Dr. Emily Schmidt-Beuchat clearly cannot perform routine procedures correctly. I paid several unexpected bills for this traumatizing experience that demonstrably harmed my physical and mental health. After the second botched test I decided to go to Planned Parenthood instead - an excellent experience in contrast. This is my only google review because trans people deserve to know this is NOT a safe place for us. Read the other reviews then go to APICHA, Housing Works, or PP instead."
"if i get enough money to get FTM surgery i dont know if i should go here because im seeing a lot of mixed comments like good and bad reviews so im not sure if i should go here once i decide to get it. does anyone else know other transgender surgery places ???"
"I have literally had to get a new provider every single time I have an appointment because they keep leaving the practice. They don’t even give you any warning of them leaving. I just got a phone call asking me when I wanted to make an appointment with Dr. X as if I had seen them prior… it was only until I started questioning that they said Dr. Y was gone. Why can they not keep staff it’s super frustrating and unprofessional to have to rebuild a relationship with someone EVERY time I go. I’ve been thru 3 going on 4 providers in the past 3 years"
"Be Careful with Mount Sinai Center for Transgender Medicine (CTMS). If you are a Transgender Person and having plans for Surgery and have No Caregiver, they will deny you the Surgery. Also be Careful of the Workers: Alicia Gonzalez (Dr. Tings') Assistant and Laura Stein (The Social Worker at 275 7th Ave, CTMS), as Laura will degrade you as a patient with no Caregiver. Laura spoke to me in a harsh way that was very degrading and She insulted my Boyfriend because he was unable to take care of me due to him working at night. The bedside manner at Mount Sinai Center for Transgender Medicine (CTMS). I am warning all of you, if you are Transgender and seeking any Gender Affirmation Surgeries at Mount Sinai, as Mount Sinai only wants Family Members and Friends to be Caregivers, as Mount Sinai doesn't refer all patients after Surgery to any VNS or Village Care. Do Not have your Surgery and/or any Medical Care at Mount Sinai because they only care about Money and they have strict gatekeepers who don't care about any Transgender People. Go somewhere else for your Surgeries."
