About the Business

The Buffalo Transportation Pierce Arrow Museum, located at 263 Michigan Avenue in Buffalo, New York, is a museum showcasing the history of the Pierce-Arrow luxury automobile brand. The museum features a variety of artifacts, including the iconic Pierce-Arrow Town Car and Boyce MotoMeter. The museum also houses a large collection of automobile mascots and motometers.

The George N. Pierce Company, known for its expert craftsmanship in household items, evolved to produce bicycles, motorcycles, and automobiles. Pierce-Arrows were powerful, ornate, and sophisticated vehicles that symbolized wealth and status. The museum highlights the company's innovative designs, such as the fender lamps and Helmeted Archer hood ornament.

In addition to Pierce-Arrow vehicles, the museum also showcases the history of the E. R. Thomas Motor Car Company, which produced the famous "Thomas Flyer" automobiles. The museum's collection includes a meticulously restored 1904 Thomas Auto-Bi and a 1909 Thomas 6-40 Flyabout.

One of the museum's standout exhibits is the 1927 Buffalo Filling Station designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. This unique gas station features a second-story observation room, copper roof, and gravity-fed gas distribution system. Wright believed that automobiles would replace trains as the primary form of transportation, and his design revolutionized the way gas stations were built.

Visitors to the Buffalo Transportation Pierce Arrow Museum can also see rare vehicles such as the Arrow Rear Entry Tonneau, of which only two remain in existence. This legendary vehicle, manufactured between 1903-04, is a testament to the rich history of American automobile manufacturing.

Overall, the museum offers a fascinating look into the history of Pierce-Arrow and other notable automobile brands, showcasing the innovation and craftsmanship that defined the early days of the automotive industry.

"This place has so much history, from bicycles and motorcycles to cars and car parts, plus the Frank Lloyd Wright gas station. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and there was so much to see. Kids tickets are cheaper, adults are $20. It was worth it and we had a blast. If you get there at an opportune moment you can even help move a car around!"

"What a wonderful and informative museum about the history of humans becoming smart with wheels! My family was enthrall by our guided tour by the nice woman who was so enthusiastic! We loved it and definitely learned a lot about transportation. It is such an intricate part of our story. Amazing to think how it all started with the builder of birdcages and cannons! How the mind comes up with putting such drastically different objects together is just amazing!! We will definitely be returning to the exhibit and in the next few weeks."
