Reviews
"I would like to express my gratitude to Actikare for the exceptional caregiving given to me and my extended family for over five years. The management team made every effort to see that caregivers were on time and had skilled training to do their work. I felt very confident that when I wasn’t able to be at home with my loved ones, they were getting extremely qualified care. All their efforts were greatly appreciated. Bea S. Let me know what changes need to be made or if there’s something different you need."
"Acti-Kare had the best rates and I have learned they have the best quality caregivers. They have been wonderful helping care for my wife over the past 14 months. They were very caring, gentle and kind with my wife who suffered from Early Onset Alzheimer's. I was never worried when I left my wife in their care. All the carefivers were high quality, knowledgable, and skilled at their trade. The Jewels are always on the ball with support, planning ahead, visits to their clients, and offering tailored care for my needs. They became part of my family and met most of my kids. I highly recommend their services."
"My mother was failing physically and required home care assistance. We spoke with multiple companies. The owner of this company, Steve Jewell, talked a good game. He tells you all about his parents and how he started this company mostly out of emotion. It may have started that way. Too bad the employees he hired are very sub-par. In fact, the people that were assigned to my mother turned out (in my oinion) to be lazy, liars and thieves. Steve "fired" one of the women. When the stealing continued, he started talking about my mother declining cognitively. Nothing was further from the truth. Steve was convinced that my mother had put things in different places than she remembered and asked for permission to search her house. He wanted to prove to us that she didn't remember where my mom hid things. As outrageous as the request seemed, we went ahead and let him search. He found absolutely nothing. My mother ended up having to go to the hospital with pneumonia. When she returned home we went with a private caregiver for her care. I would never refer anyone to these people. On top of the things that went missing, the caregivers lied about what they did and didn't do. Most of the time they said they did things that were not done. They were lazy. They would not even help her with her exercises. They said they were too busy. My mother even had to teach one of the women how to make a bed, which was one of the reasons she needed help. She was frail and was on a walker. My mother has now been gone for over a year. I should have written this review a long time ago. I started multiple times, but it always sounded very hateful. I have tried to take the emotion out of the review and just state the facts. I could go one and on about specific things, but it would be overkill. Just steer clear. Don't be influenced by what they promise or the price. It's not worth it!"
"We have known Steve Jewel and his staff for 5 years and they have provided superior care for my father, who eventually passed away. Steve and the caregivers provided 24x7 care for my father for the better part of 5 months as his condition declined and did everything possible to assure all his needs were taken care of up to and through his passing. Their care and concern was not just limited to my father, but extended to our whole family. Through that experience Acti-Kare became an extended part of our family and continues to be so to this day. Currently, they provide companion and assistance care for my mother and we expect them to continue to do so for years to come."
"We required in home help while trying to keep my mother with End Stage Alzheimer's Disease, at home, while my father went to dialysis 3 days per week. The pictures above do not accurately depict the attitude of those they sent into my parents' home. One of the first caregivers was leaving the company for other employment. The day after her last night working with my mother, she went into the community and spoke to family from whom we were estranged. So, we began to be concerned about confidentiality. I will not mention specific names, here, but my mother developed bed sores while this company was in our employ. She was in the same disposition, physically and mentally, as before we hired this company, but the 3 days per week in which we needed them proved to be enough time to show changes in her skin integrity. We spoke with the caregivers, and care was given to heal and prevent these. However, the longer one caregiver was assigned to my parents, the less she wished to communicate with me and actually began pushing my children out of my mother's room. . . Whenever they were there, they visited their grandmother and this person had taken it upon herself to try to keep them away from Mom. She began rearranging furniture, etc, to her liking and, at the encouragement of the management in the company ( I know bc this was discussed with me when I signed them on with us) began using my parents food as her own. When I was there, I witnessed her throwing my mother's Blue Willow dishes in the sink as she was washing them, chipping them, sometimes. She slammed the door of ovens and microwave until they broke and we had to replace the appliances. . . I witnessed this slamming of things. And she broke several antiques and my dad was finally upset when she broke his electric razor. Before this company came in, these things had never happened. I tried to communicate face to face and through notes, and she refused to talk with me about these issues, telling my father she didn't know who I thought I was. . . To which he said that he told her, " She's the one who hired you to be here, and she's the one who writes your checks." We were in the process of looking for other help which is more difficult than you might imagine, ( being thankful that we at least had eyes on my mother while my dad was at dialysis) when my mother's shoulder was pulled out of it's socket, and we were able to place her in acute hospice care for her final weeks. I won't go into the details of that, here. When my dad's health declined, while we prepared our home to receive him, we placed him in a wonderful assisted living, rather than Akticare. . . Who, by the way, had begun contacting him and even came to the assisted living facility to solicit his business. My dad agreed that too much had gone on with this company, and I lived an hour away from his home, too far to keep tabs on what they were doing in his home. So, he did not want their services, again."
