JMU Technology Innovation and Economic Development (TIED) is a school located at 217 South Liberty Street in Harrisonburg, Virginia, United States. Our institution works to promote innovation and enhance research by connecting inventors with the business community. We support faculty, research, entrepreneurship, technology, commercialization, and new venture formation.

TIED exemplifies JMU's core qualities of Engagement and Innovation by creating partnerships with the business community and supporting faculty and student research, entrepreneurship, and new venture formation to foster local economic growth. We believe in investing in the economic development of our community and strive to leverage JMU's resources towards that goal.

We provide services to innovators such as education on intellectual property protection, patent applications, competition analysis, and connections to business planning functions. Our goal is to reward inventors for solving real-world problems and support future research and innovation development endeavors.

Technology Innovation and Economic Development (TI&ED) serves the faculty, staff, and students of JMU by helping to identify and promote innovations developed at the university. James Madison Innovations, Inc. (JMI) serves as JMU's affiliated entity for licensing inventions and ensuring effective commercialization with a high level of service to the inventor.
