About the Business
Selah Academy is a school located in downtown Harrisonburg, Virginia, United States, at 176 West Market Street. We believe that children learn best through experiences and play, and that they should be active participants in unhurried, meaningful learning. Our institution also believes that children are capable of deep religious experiences and can personally encounter God.
We are currently accepting applications for 5, 6, and 7-year-olds to join our Sports and Nature Day on Thursdays from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. As a mother of four and a former English teacher, our director, Paula Cook, has a strong love for children's literature and believes that children learn best through discovery and play.
In 2019, after pursuing a Master of Education in Independent School Leadership at Vanderbilt University, Paula was inspired to start a school. She discovered Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, a Montessori-inspired way of helping children connect to God, which led her to start Selah Academy in 2022 as a pilot program. The school has since grown to a 4-day-a-week kindergarten and pre-kindergarten for 4-6-year-olds.
We are dedicated to providing an intentionally prepared learning environment where children can discover and thrive. Selah Academy meets at Otterbein United Methodist Church and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, or national or ethnic origin.
