Small Door Veterinary - 14th Street

"Small Door is more expensive than other vets, including a yearly fee and higher price than many vets in DC for similar services. However, these prices are not matched by an appropriate customer service experience. After paying $169 for membership as well as $595 for a wellness package for vaccines, they canceled my pet’s visit while we were already in the car and 7 minutes late due to morning traffic. All that stress on my kitty for no reason. They clearly pack their schedule way too tight, which makes the kind of concierge service experience they promise impossible. Their website clearly states that pets get more time with vets than in other practices, but from what I was told us being 10 minutes late for a long exam would eat into other patients’ visits- which can only mean they pack their schedule just like all other practices. Furthermore, out of the three vets I met, two were rude and dismissive, showing impatience at my basic questions about arranging travel with my pet. I had a very positive experience with the first vet. The chat is convenient - but I have honestly not received any information about my questions which I had not already found on Google. Overall, I would not recommend Small Door."

"The vets and the techs seemed attentive and good at their work, with decent advice for my two cats that I brought in for wellness exams. However their fees for work beyond exams are pretty costly relative to other DC practices I've seen. For transparency's sake - was quoted a price of $2.2k for one cat and $2.5k for the second (and that's on the low end, with additional charges possible) for dental work that's fairly typical for middle-aged cats. Got a quote that was well under $2k in total for both elsewhere. Small Door also was pretty encouraging of additional testing and follow-up for other relatively small findings. They did not press when I held back, but the general vibe felt like them throwing as many follow-up possibilities out as possible to see what sticks."

"Brought my cat here for the first time today and was truly blown away. They gave her a 1 hour slot, which they said they like to do for cats so they don't have to rush things. When I walked in the exam room, they had cat toys and treats set up on the floor. The doctor and nurse sat down on the floor with my cat and waited for her to feel comfortable enough to come out of the carrier on her own. They were both so gentle and patient with her. 100% recommend."

"Our 13.5 yr old Golden Retriever was experiencing mobility issues and had sudden swelling in his front leg. We were able to quickly and easily schedule a visit—Dr. Heidi Heller was incredible. We have never received such heartfelt and extraordinary care. Our visit summary moved us to tears, I wish every vet’s office was as helpful, caring and comforting. I highly recommend their services!"

"Stunning! Since I got my appointment through the phone call, I could notice differences comparing with other vets in the area (before Small Door, I contacted at least 3-4 in the neighborhood and the attention wasn't that I expected). I took my cats to Small Door Veterinary and the attention and service was excellent, I enjoyed the time spent with the Dr Craigh and Laurence. All the time they shown respect with my cats and with me. They felt like a good experienced and knowing vets and interested in what do I needed to say. I can recommend you this place, especially if you enjoy the easy-way to get appointments and like the follow up with it. Also, they have an excellent mobile app. Thank you guys!
