Dong Tay Restaurant - Norfolk

"Ordered takeout pho from them a few months back and it was pretty good, so I came by again after work to try some of their other food. Parking was a hassle as there was no lot nearby and only small street parking spaces. The restaurant was empty except for one other table on a Tuesday evening. I was seated after a few minutes (they didn't notice me waiting at the door). Facilities seem clean and new and a good location right in downtown. Food was subpar and expensive. I forgot to take a pic but for $7.99, the 2 egg rolls were small with absolutely no garnishes or a bed of lettuce to wrap in. They looked store bought and not home (or restaurant) made as how many other Vietnamese restaurants would have. Pork chops were also a let down. For $15.99, relatively small portion size and the meat was tough and salty. Veggies were haphazardly cut and the do chua (pickled carrot and radish) was slightly thick for my taste and sweet but not pickled quite enough. Probably will not visit again as the food seems not worth its high price point."

"Ordered round beef pho as takeout tonight. Beef came grey/ white and was very dry and chewy with a bad taste. Broth was okay but a tad bland. I would not order again."

"So I got the lunch special. On Sunday, it doesn’t come with soup. Either your choice of crab Rangoon or something else. It literally came with one crab Rangoon. I’ve never seen fried rice this white and the sesame chicken had a weird microwave taste with no sauce."

"The place is empty on a Saturday evening. Walked in and nobody’s around to welcome or seat you. Walked around and a guy was on his phone hidden behind a column foundation, plugged in on the wall jack. He finally saw us sat us down and took our order. I got the shrimp Pad Thai, and wife ordered beef vermicelli salad. Food came, but he got my order wrong. The nice lady server took away the shrimp fried rice l, and apologized. The vermicelli salad was good, but the beef was a bit chewy and cut into long strips. It was still refreshingly good. Pad Thai came, and it smelled good. Topped with 5 large shrimps, and there was the smokiness that I like and actually craves for. This made up for the overall taste which lacked sweetness. The overall experience is okay, and we’ll be back for more. The place is spacious, and be great for a big party I think."

"We enjoyed our experience here. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. The menu had a variety of choices, and everything was reasonably priced. My husband and I both had the wonton soup which was delicious! It had a great flavor. My husband ordered the pad Thai. He said it was very good. I ordered the lunch salt and pepper chicken. It was very fresh and delicious. The restaurant was also very clean. We will be happy to return."
