"My husband had a scope scheduled nearly two weeks in advance (they were terrible at calling him back btw—it took a week and calling another department to finally get a day), spent over a half hour on the phone doing intake, and was told during the call he wouldn’t have to take a covid test because he got covid the month prior. They don’t call you until the day before to actually tell you what time you need to come, so after having contact with Alta view the day before his 7:45 AM appointment, showing up early to make sure things go smoothly, and then waiting for 45 minutes, a nurse comes in to tell us they want to reschedule him for next week because he has only been recovered from covid for 6 weeks, not their desired 7, and he got a rapid covid test to confirm it, which apparently is not good enough for them. They were fully aware of his situation beforehand and said it was fine. The nurse said there was a policy change last week, but no one bothered to let us know until he was already supposed to be getting the procedure done. It is absolutely ridiculous for patients to be treated with this lack of consideration. I can’t believe that after the stress of the symptoms, the scheduling and intake, the anticipation of waiting for so long, and getting work off, we were treated so poorly. Hopefully our rescheduled appointment provides a better experience. Update: The second appointment went very smoothly. Everyone was kind, we were taken to the back right away, and the procedure went well. I added a star for providing a good experience the second time around, but I won’t go any higher than that due to the poor first experience. Second update: The hospital sent us a personal letter expressing their apologies and what they did to remedy the flaw in their system as well as a nice gift card. Very impressed with the concern we received after our negative experience. Added a 3rd star."

"I've been a patient of this clinic for 20 yrs, for Gerd. I have a endoscopy every 4 yrs average due to my severe acid reflux to check for possible esophagus damage from the acid, as a precaution to catch problems early, like people do with having colonoscopy's. Today I saw Dr. Shakir for first time since my long time gastrologist retired. He could not have been more rude & condescending. Shakir made me feel so uncomfortable as he lectured & questioned me as to why I'm having another endoscopy. His bedside manner & timing is unprofessional. He must have known how he sounded since he apologized for his tone just before he put me to sleep. Alta View is always my first choice in medical care for myself & family, The hospital itself & staff are the best in SLC. I've been seeing my Doctors at Alta View for over 30 yrs. But I will not be a patient of this gastroenterology clinic again. I don't recommend Dr. Shakir & his condescending personality & attitude. Worst Doctor at Alta View. But I guess 1 bad experience in 30 years isn't all bad. Love Alta View Hospital, but Shakir is the worst"
