The Roaring Fork Interpretive Marker 1 Overlook is located in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, United States within the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The main reason to drive the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail is to hike to one of three waterfalls or to see the three historical homesteads along the way. The road is not open year-round due to snow, typically accessible from May 1st to the end of November. Visitors should be aware of potential traffic congestion in Gatlinburg, especially during peak seasons. Overall, the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail offers a peaceful and scenic drive through the forest with opportunities to explore nature and historical sites along the way.
Elkmont Campground
Elkmont Campground is the largest and busiest campground in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, located just eight miles from Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Situated at an elevation of 2,150 feet, this campground offers 200 tent/RV campsites with paved driveways, fire rings, and picnic tables. In addition, there are 20 walk-in sites for tents and nine wheelchair accessible ADA sites. Visitors to Elkmont can enjoy the sounds of the nearby rivers, fishing, hiking, and exploring historic remnants from the area's past. The campground is a popular destination during the summer and in October, offering a central location for accessing the many recreational activities in the Elkmont area.
