Welcome to the Richmond Library, a cherished community hub located at 2987 Almond Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As part of the Free Library system, we proudly serve the Richmond and Port Richmond neighborhoods, offering a wealth of resources and programs for all ages. Our library has a rich history dating back to 1897, when it began as a "Traveling Library" with just 300 books. Thanks to the generosity of Andrew Carnegie and Anne W. Penfield, the current library building was established in 1910, providing a permanent home for our growing collection. Renovated in 1994, we now offer modern amenities, including Internet access, to meet the needs of our patrons.

Our library traces its origins to the visionary efforts of M. Louise Thomas, who dreamed of a space where people could immerse themselves in books and cultural activities. Over the years, Tacony Library has been a venue for engaging events and has hosted notable figures such as Susan B. Anthony and P.T. Barnum. Today, we continue this tradition by offering a variety of programs, including cooking classes, literacy games, and letter writing activities, specifically designed for homeschoolers in grades K-8.
