In 2021, the Foundation for the Reading Pagoda and the City of Reading began assessing the need for updates and improvements to the structure. Engineering assessments in 2022 outlined necessary repairs to the retaining wall at the Pagoda's foundation, as well as a comprehensive evaluation of the building's condition. This assessment covered mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, structural, and interior architectural elements, as well as the exterior structure.
