About the Lawrence County Historical Society
The Lawrence County Historical Society, located in the heart of New Castle, Pennsylvania, is a treasure trove of local history and culture. Our mission is to preserve, protect, and display the rich heritage of Lawrence County's citizens. Chartered in 1938, we are a non-profit, tax-exempt, charitable 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to educating the public through our extensive collections and engaging exhibits.Exhibitions and Tours:
One of our notable exhibitions is "Ulster to the Alleghenies: A Scots-Irish Immigration Story," which delves into the compelling narrative of Scots-Irish immigrants and their journey to Pennsylvania. This exhibit will be available for viewing starting August 26, 2024.Visitors can also take a guided tour of our beautifully preserved 1904-05 Edwardian-style Colonial Revival Residence, originally built for George and Alice White Greer. Tours are available by reservation only on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1 pm.Special Displays:
Our Maryann Galiano Room on the second floor is home to a newly assembled collection of Shenango China. This display, curated by our dedicated volunteer and archives committee chair Jim Wilton, features plates commemorating significant historical figures and events, including:- Jacqueline and President John F. Kennedy
- President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s first birthday in the White House
- Celebrated local personalities
- Extensive Christmas plate collections, and moreNotable Achievements:
We proudly celebrate the accomplishments of local figures such as Chief Justice Debra Todd of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Her remarkable journey and achievements are highlighted in the Unified Judicial System of Pennsylvania news article posted on January 20, 2223.Community and Membership:

Clavelli Cultural Heritage Center in her honor. The room now houses an extensive display of Shenango China and serves as a testament to her invaluable contributions.Visit Us:
