"I stumbled across this place and I was not disappointed. A small museum but it was curated well to tell the story about the canal and the building the museum was in. The person there was really knowledgeable. The entrance fee was by a suggested donation, but they have a jar and wont turn you away if you dont have enough. The trail was ok but I think some better signage would have strengthen that part of the tour. Parking is tight."

"Lovely old building converted to museum. Some exhibits on who and why the canal was built and a bit on how it was built. Outside is a trail taking you beside what remains of the canal and the five locks that were needed to get the canal boars out of the Rondout Creek valley. The trail has a few more interpretive panels and the grades not that s steep. Take a few minutes to imagine what it was like to build and work and live along the canal. Besides the volunteer museum guide needs a few people to talk to."

"I like the hand on exhibits and the music and that it's kid friendly but I would talk more about the tavern a little more and letting people go upstairs would be nice"

"Cute museum with some great exhibits. The museum staff were friendly and helpful. My favorite exhibit was the model lock with water and all. Good use of model landscapes and artifacts from the era. Has a very good walk with 5 locks, all of which are in pretty good shape considering they've been out of commission for over one hundred years. I was impressed by the snubbing posts that were still on site. The walk is a leisurely half mile. I'd make sure to bring tick spray as it is pretty well wooded. The museum staff told us they will be moving from their current location to a larger building closer to the 5 lock walk, next year (2020). Looking forward to checking out again next year."
