“Very lucky to have this cafe on our doorstep. Kate (the owner) and her team are always welcoming and make a special fuss of our dog Luna even if we just walk by. Great selection of cakes all lovingly made by Kate and a great selection of food for breakfast & lunch. Kate also runs a Supper Club on a Thursday evening where she creates a varied 3 course meal each week. We have been on several occasions & have been delighted with the dishes and wine. Highly recommend for brunch, lunch, amazing cakes or a treat at the Supper Club. Not forgetting the cakes made to order for any celebration. Ordered several for various family celebrations. All delicious & loved by all our guests!”

Working with Ryan, Becki and the team was an absolute pleasure and apart from being very talented florists, they are all round lovely people! They made time to listen to what we wanted, came to us with creative ideas to help us achieve it, and were very supportive throughout the whole process (including Covid postponements and venue changes!) They helped us to come up with a colour scheme that we loved and were incredibly imaginative in their approach, taking into account the style of the venue, what worked best in the spaces and were always sensitive to our budget, giving us the best possible solution. “Absolutely fantastic food and even better hospitality. As soon as we entered we felt welcome. We had a jug of passion fruit juice which was nice, if a bit sweet. For starters we had the nundu and the mogo. The mogo had a nice flavour and was a good consistency. The nundu was absolutely fantastic and I really recommend it. Traditionally it's just beef fat, however, as the server explained, you can't serve grilled fat on its own in the UK, so it had beef with it. It was so full of flavour and seasoned perfectly. For mains we had sukama wiki with ugali and charsi lamb curry with naan. The sukama had a lovely flavour and went well with the ugali. I tried the curry with the ugali and it didn't go as well. The curry was spicy but really rich. We had some karak chai to finish the meal and packed up everything we didn't eat. Our server was great - very friendly and knowledgeable - and I got the feel from the restaurant that they love serving people and making people happy with their food.”

“Had a very comfortable night here before a procedure at the nearby Bishopswood Hospital. Lovely room with garden view, high-speed Internet, Netflix, sky etc. My only regret is I didn't get to spend longer here and had to skip breakfast!”

“The Gate is a really good place to visit. We had dinner they on a Saturday night. We had booked in advance, so a table has been reserved for us. The menu is really good, with a really good variety to choose from, including a separate vegan/vegetarian menu. The staff are really friendly and helpful and the menu gives really good variety for money, including the drinks menu. We started with the vegetarian chili nachos which were delicious and made a really nice change from the traditional meat version. We will definitely go back again.”
