“A friendly, off-the beaten track local pub, serving great ales direct from the cask. Very traditional interior, and the locals are engaged in funny conversations and banter. This was a great pit stop on our long walk. I think this was how all pubs used to be - a genuine meeting place rather than somewhere to extract money out of you - I hope it never changes!”

“Amazing food! Portions are big. We were served by Grace. She was lovely and so friendly. The atmosphere was just a vibe. Good food, good music. Now for the constructive criticism. I booked for a friend's birthday and chose a Friday as it was ladies night. We did not receive a welcome drink as specified on their website and social media. The mains came far too quickly as we had literally just started tucking into starters before being overwhelmed with mains which could not fit on the table with the starters. The ladies serving us needs to be more knowledgeable of the menu as everything we asked they couldn't answer. They are all friendly and welcoming but could be more experienced which can be fixed with a little training. Maybe a menu tasting for the stuff so they are prepared and more confident to answer any questions customers may have. All in all, its a great find. Defo coming back! Nice to see a great place and its black owned!!”

“This was my favorite pub. We spent a great deal of time and money there. Good friends made, both staff and locals. Unfortunately, the manager, has no class and a bad attitude. The Runner is on suspension, for me, for 60 days. If it ever happens again, I won’t spend another £ there. Reply - I am not about to Dox anybody. We love the food, atmosphere and friendships. The absolute majority of your staff is excellent. A little bit of tact goes a long way though, as opposed to a “Shoosh”. You should indeed have a conversation with managers about how they deal with people, especially some that drop 500 quid a month. Thanks, Ollie, Very Best. Update - The Running Mare has definitely upped their game. Give credit where credit is due. This is a wonderful place where You will find kind and interesting people. “Just want to say we had a great evening here a couple of Saturdays ago. There was a glitch with the online booking system which meant they were not expecting the 10 of us, but Saraswati made arrangements to find us a suitable area of the restaurant swiftly. The food was great and she was really passionate about her restaurant and advising which food options to try. We would return for sure!!”

The sauce for the Scialiatielli was seriously amazing, the Bresaola was high quality and the Basil pesto for the Bruschetta was on point. The Vermentino white wine paired perfectly.
