This special property was made possible by a generous donation from Bob Meyer and his family, with additional support from the Indiana Heritage Trust. The preserve is dedicated to Fred Meyer, who played a key role in establishing the state's first dedicated nature preserve in 1969. The original 14 acres known as Shalom Woods was donated by the Cohen family in the 1990s.

Selmier State Forest
Selmier State Forest, located at 2900 North 90 East, North Vernon, Indiana, is a 355-acre park with multi-use woods and hiking trails. The forest was donated to the State of Indiana by Stella Selmier in honor of her late husband, Frank, who had a passion for the outdoors. The property features a variety of tree species planted by Frank Selmier from 1921 to 1934, including pine, black locust, black walnut, sycamore, and tulip trees. Most of the land was placed in Indiana’s Classified Forest Program before becoming state land in 1944.
