"Visiting Blue Heron Vineyards & Winery was one of the most memorable experiences of our fall travels this year. The reviews we had read, both on Harvest Host and Google, were impressive, but as Google maps led us up a winding gravel sideroad, we started wondering if we had made the right decision by veering off from our itinerary's main route. Within a minute of arriving to our destination, our doubts were fully dispelled! Blue Heron's setting is almost magical, with spectacular views of the Ohio River and the forested, hilly surroundings. The winery’s premises, including its tasting room and “The Snug” (inspired by British pubs’ small and comfortable drinking rooms), are most charming and welcoming. We enjoyed their full-bodied reds and their crisp whites. Owners Lynn and Gary were incredibly gracious hosts; we received from Lynn a fascinating account of the winery’s historical background, and from Gary a tour of their property, including a ride to what is possibly the largest Celtic Cross carving in the world, which they commissioned local artist Greg Harris to sculpt from a massive granite stone—a marvel in an of itself. We are already planning to pay a longer visit to Blue Heron next time we are in the area!"
