"Smyrna B. C. at The Crossroads has proven to be a true blessing in my life. Having to involuntarily relocate from my life long home, was tragic for my family and I. At 55 y/o age, everything and some people we knew and loved at home in N. O., La. was gone. Hurricane Katrina changed my life. My two former churches were gone. Pastor Paul S. Morton, Pastor Fred Luter and their families, we're also displaced. But, as I've heard Pastor Morton preach since Katrina, " I Thank you satan, for That." Once here, I began visiting Baptist Churches, my cousin suggested, one a tech at my Optholmolgist suggested and some I just passed by, traveling around town. The Holy Spirit, did not give a sign, until I parked and was walking in the parking lot at The Smyrna B. C. The choir was singing, the Spirit was high and I was convicted, in the side parking lot, that Smyrna B. C. would be my, post Katrina, church home. Our church, is sitting on that hill for a reason. It is a beacon light, a lighthouse in a storm and a safe haven from the world's woes. Having been taught the obedience of tithing, I now had somewhere to give my tithes and offerings. What a blessing to be able to sow! As I think back, I laugh at my satisfaction in being able to give. It wasn't like I was tithing from my 30 year salary, as in N. O. At the time, my income was only the minimal unemployment Orleans Parish Schools, said their employees were entitled to receive. But, I knew the value of tithing. Today I describe SBC as the church of love and my Pastor as a Pastor for all seasons!!! Our Pastor worships,teaches and preaches, every time like it's going to be his last time! When Pastor Walls completes a message, everyone in his hearing has a vivid understanding of The Word of God. Now, I know Satan is horrified that I've United with another vibrant, thriving and growing church. Now, I thank you satan, for that move, after Katrina. I'm continuing to Grow, Go and Glow, for my Lord, under the capable leadership of Pastor Lonnie B. Walls, Jr."
