"Via Mar is by far the best provider we have found for my daughter’s eating disorder. My adult daughter has been suffering from ARFID for many years. She knew she needed treatment, but was having difficulty finding a personable provider that would treat her advanced ED and accept her insurance. Her research led her to ViaMar in West Palm Beach. She has now been a patient for four months and is making outstanding progress. In my opinion, what makes ViaMar different than others is that they do not only focus on weight restoration. They treat the whole person! There are also a lot of opportunities for the family and support people to learn and to interact with the treatment team. Their objective is to also acknowledge, and treat any underlying trauma /issues that may have caused the ED to thrive. This has made all the difference in my daughter’s success. ViaMar has been great to work with financially also. They listened to our financial concerns and have worked within our means. Stephanie in accounting has been a true Godsend along with all the therapists, nutritionists, and support staff. "I ain’t here with palm palms, just with blunt honesty: ViaMar saved my life, and I would be dead if not for this place. I came in as a 23-year-old (straight) male, and I had my eating disorder for nine years and never sought treatment until I was left with no alternative except death. I was fresh off of watching my entire life implode before my eyes and was a broken shell of a man. Over the next 7 months, ViaMar helped me pick up the pieces and gave me the ability to rebuild my life from scratch by helping me build strong foundations. ViaMar understands that eating disorders are never about the food but about the feelings, pain, and trauma that led each of us to use food as a coping mechanism. This place supported me in digging deeper to understand how and why my disorder developed, understand the trauma I both suffered and caused in the past, and helped me make peace with it. Well, no, of course not, I was getting treatment for an eating disorder...so I wasn’t able to engage in my disorder…so I wasn’t a happy camper. What this place did do was show me a life other than the one I had consumed by the swirling despair of a toilet bowl. Many people have left negative reviews recently, some of whom I know personally. That is their God-given right, and I can’t speak for their experiences, only for my own. The place isn’t perfect…no place is. One thing I will say is that one gets out of treatment what they put into it. ViaMar will welcome you in with open arms and will make you feel accepted and understood, sometimes for the first time in your entire life. Then ViaMar will challenge you to grow, which will be extremely difficult and uncomfortable. ViaMar will make you feel uncomfortable and then make you sit in and analyze the discomfort. It sucks…treatment is hard, there is no sugarcoating that, but out of that discomfort, you learn how to build healthy connections with others and yourself, learn how to emotionally regulate, and how to survive and thrive in a world that is a diet dystopia. I believe this place gives you the best chance of never coming back. In all, what ViaMar gave me was a chance…a chance to live a life worth living, a chance to build a future for myself, a chance to find out who I am free from my eating disorder, and a chance to find love and happiness. For that, there are no words that can express the gratitude I have."
