About the Business

Stiltsville is a historic institution located at Crandon Blvd, Key Biscayne, Florida, United States. Situated above Biscayne Bay's shallow seagrass beds, Stiltsville has a fascinating history dating back to the 1930s. Originally built by "Crawfish Eddie Walker," the first shack on stilts above the water, Stiltsville grew over the years to become a popular destination for visitors to nearby Miami Beach. Known for its aura of mystery and stories of illegal activities, Stiltsville was the place to see and be seen.
Today, Stiltsville is part of Biscayne National Park, with the structures preserved by the Stiltsville Trust. This non-profit organization works to rehabilitate the buildings and support educational and interpretive services to showcase the rich marine resources of the park. Despite hurricanes, fires, and the exposed location, Stiltsville remains a unique and historically significant part of Florida's heritage.

"You wouldn't expect to find historic houses in the middle of a 95% water national park but here Stiltsville is! Each house has a unique history that's fascinating to learn about. If you don't have a personal boat, the Biscayne National Park Institute has a few tours that'll take you close to several of the houses"
"I booked the kayak and boat tour through the Biscayne Institute and it was awesome. Highly recommended."
"Took the Biscayne Bay Institute Heritage Cruise. Great experience. A lot of history was shared by the tour guides. A ride through Stiltsville was included in the tour."
"Interesting enough, these houses weren’t abandoned, they were taken away from the owners by, you guessed it, the government. Because people can’t live free and where they want in this country, like over the water in Biscayne Bay, the government swooped in and changed the boundaries of the national park so they could kick the owners of these beautiful structures out. Welcome to America, now bend over!"
"A really cool area to check out if you have access to a boat. It was really neat to see the houses that are still standing. We didn't really hang on in the area, we just passed through."
