Reviews
"Great, easily accessible hiking trail. One of many trails in the "Mines of Spain" forest. I especially recommend focusing and watching for birds circling the entire Mississippi River valley."
"Nice hiking, awesome views."
"I did not expect to see something like this when I was traveling in Iowa. I was blown away when I discovered this hidden gem! Stunning views and unique landmarks make this an idea day hike. The entire recreation area has something for every hiker level. They have smooth paved loop trails and strenuous uphill treks. I can’t wait to do some more trails when I return."
"An old, old (1788 forward) location hiding among the west side bluffs along our beautiful Mississippi River just on the south edge of Dubuque. My visit, with a good friend, was on a rare, warm day in October. Trails are generally short, 1/2 to 2 miles, originating from 5 or 6 parking areas. Trails are flat to rolling to some pretty steep grades, but manageable and some stairs and railing where it would be most helpful. The bluff trails are generally very scenic and surprisingly high up (200-300 feet) for Midwestern flatlanders. The area was 22 square miles, originally, in 1788 and a land grant to Dubuque, the founder of the area city. Lead mining and other minerals were mined from the area for many years. Highly recommended for easy trail walks."
