"Honest, but not friendly. I rented a car from New York, Midtown. The car was vibrating at highway speed. But by the time I discovered the problem, I was on my way to Boston. I called the customer service serval times, as well as few other near by Avis. None of them were helpful nor friendly. I suspect that they weren't willing to take on a problematic car, because that means they have to go through the pain of getting it repaired, while loosing business because theyd didn't have the car. I called this store, and they were willing to swap out the car. The car they gave me had a flat tire, so I went back and they gave me another car, which worked out. But the staff were not friendly. It was clear from their voice that they didn't want to deal with this kind of problem. On top of that, I had to run up to the 6th floor to find the car, which turned out to be problematic. With a bit of friendly attitude, I would give a 5 star rating. But sadly, they I have to rate them as 3."
"WILL OVERCHARGE without warning or communication! I booked a rental car for a day and, after waiting over an hour in line and another 20 minutes for a car (because apparently, a reservation doesn't guarantee availability), I finally got the vehicle. At the counter, I specifically discussed the possibility to return the car that same night after hours. The staff assured me that the garage is open 24 hours and that I could simply drop the keys, along with the gas receipt and parking ticket showing the return time, in the drop box (which they have a picture of in the office). At my return, I put everything together in an envelop and put it in the drop box. I received no confirmation or any communication afterward. To my shock, I later discovered they charged me MORE THAN DOUBLE the original booking price, again with no communication at all. When I contacted customer service, they claimed the location doesn't allow after-hours returns and that they didn’t check the drop box the next day, so they charged me for an extra day, without any notification (despite having both my email and phone number). Their so-called resolution was to offer a 50% discount on the additional day, still expecting me to pay for half a day due to their mistake. This is completely unacceptable."
"Another bad experience with the worst car rental company. I decided to give them another chance after my last review and had the same bad experience. First, I booked my car months in advance and prepaid to ensure I had the correct car, as I needed a specific size car to move my daughter to college. Upon arrival in the DC office there were no signs on how to get to the "under ground" bunker of an office. Had to walk where all the cars exit and enter the underground garage to get to a small office tucked away in the back 2 floors down. Second, upon arrival, of course they notify me that they do not have the class car I reserved and they have nothing available. I had to get a smaller car than expected. Then they told me , that in order to get a refund for the class diff I have to call them after I get my contract, they can not do it for me. Meaning you pay us now, and then you run after us to get it fixed, we can not help you even though we messed up and did not have the car you reserved well in advance. 3: they sold me an unlimited toll charge and failed to mention that the fee is per day and not just the $21 quoted. 4: I return the car at the Cambridge office, and I need to work for them. I was told at the office that I have to make an illegal u-turn and go park the car in a garage, take note of millage and gas and walk back 10min to the office. That is crazy! Where is the customer service? Then I asked to fix my payment now that I actually had a contract for a larger car, and the guy tells me the same thing, only now he blames the pickup location and said they should have emailed customer service to let them know to fix the contract which they did not do, so there is nothing he can do. But he can charge me the wrong price. That of course he can do. Now I have to run after them , wait on hold hours upon hours so they can fix their mistakes. NEVER RENT AVIS!!!"
"Fast, polite and friendly staff. Met 10 minutes prior to the appointment, and left 8 minutes after. Booked a «mystery» car and got a 2023 Jeep Wrangler Sahara edition, so nice car. They dont deserve all of the negative reviews."
"Rental vehicles are parked off-site from the rental office. Agents refuse to take you to the vehicle or show you where the garage is located, so there is no easy way to review the car you are getting before you rent it. When I found the car I had reserved on-line in the garage, it had multiple large dents, a cracked bumber, and the turn signal did not work."
